Yes.

I have been having a problem with bananas for months now.  They turn black so quickly.

I even bought a bunch of slightly green bananas, and they never ripened.  They just stayed green and then turned black.

Re: Do You Return Bad Fruit

[ Edited ]

Given that it costs at least $1 per mile to drive a car (cost of vehicle, insurance, gas, maintenance, taxes...etc), that would be a no.  For this same reason, Red Box movies aren't remotely a bargain.

No. I do not recall returning anything to a grocery store.

I returned some mandarin oranges to Whole Foods last year. They were horrible and expensive. I guess I wasn't the only one to return them. I hate returning stuff but sometimes I think it is necessary.

I buy most of my produce at Costco. To anwswer your question, yes, I do return it when it's bad. That applies to any fruit that I purchase, even that which I don't buy at Costco.

'All in all', I do think that stores want to know when an item 'isn't right'.  Used to be, years ago, that the return person/counter would make a note of the problems with items.  ............ Anyway, with all of the TV and other 'news' now-a-days, stores and companies don't want to have a lot of people become sick because of their defective products.  Better to remove them from the shelves, if necessary.  But, how would they know unless customers report it to the company and/or store?

I would if I had the time to do it.

One thing (among many) that I like about Trader Joe's is that they keep track of what isn't right.  I recall, a couple of years ago or so, re: dried black figs in clear round containers. (not the fresh ones).  Because they were very dry, not moist, they took them off the shelves for months, it seems.  Then, they returned nice and plump as usual.  Not dried out.  TJ's pays attention to their customers, so far.  Each store is small-ish, so they seem to know their customers, pay attention to their comments; what they want and don't want.  If something is (unusually) out-of-of-stock, they will look it up for you on their computer and tell you which nearby store still has it on their shelves.  Heart

okay what the heck I thought I was the only one! Yes, been having the same issues with bananas these days and wasn't sure why, regardless of where I buy them. I am pretty much just buying like 2 or 3 at a time now if at all. I wonder why??

I never have and this year I've gotten some horrid fruit. Peaches that were gross on the inside, grapes that were so sour I had to toss them, cherries that were tasteless or bitter, watermelons that were almost all rind when cut and then the actual fruit part had a bad taste and strawberries that were inedible.  And these were not all purchased at the same place either so it's not like I need to shop elsewhere.  LOL

The one thing I'm tired of is crummy meat.  I bought a beef roast to toss in the crockpot and when I took it out of the package, the entire bottom of it was at least an inch thick of fat.  By the time I cut that all off, my roast was barely big enough to feed us.  I was so disgusted that I paid all that money for half fat, I was tempted to take a photo of the roast and go back to the store with the packaging but I just let it go.  But I'm done buying meat from that particular store.
