I only had one in my life that I can remember.  I was driving over a bridge and went over the side.  My car seemed to take forever to fall.  My life passed before my eyes.  I remembered things from when I was a child that must have been locked away in my memory and things I did remember from when I was a teen and young adult.

I woke up suddenly before my car hit the water below.  The car accident was scary, but the scenes from my life were nice.  I don't know if that was a nightmare, but it was only one of two dreams that I woke up suddenly from.

I used to have nightmares quite often a few years ago. Always the same one. My town was being attacked and houses were set on fire. My next door neighbor's house was one of them. We saw men in uniforms carrying rifles so a bunch of us ran from my parents' house over to a large building. We ran up the stairs to hide. Lots of lockers and other to hide. Then we heard them coming up the stairs looking for people to kill. When they found me a rifle was always pointed at me....and then l woke up !!! I remember screaming and shaking so badly that l would have to sit in my recliner until l calmed down.

They were horrible and l don't know what caused them!! I haven't had any like this for a few years...thank God !!! I hope l don't have one like this tonight since I'm talking about it !!!

I've always been afraid living alone but I've been alone for many, many years. What the heck?!?!

I don't want to alarm you.

I don't know your age or health situation but you probably need to get checked out.

Even with a "nightmare", you shouldn't wake up with your heart pounding.

Continued.... I know it wasn't caused because of the school shootings. I did work in a school district for many years. Other night mares I had we were looking out my office window and we saw the same type of soldiers coming in the building...then it ended. Those were before the school shootings started happening...but being the principal's secretary l used to get calls saying there was a bomb in our building! I told the principal and the police were called and they looked around. Everyone was sent outside except one of us in the office. Maybe these nightmares were caused by that.

We were never really afraid because they were quite common in schools back then ... I would say at least 30-35 years ago. Very scary nightmares though!!!

My DH gets nightmares. ( police officer)  He screams and thrashes and cries in his sleep.  When I wake him up, his heart is pounding.  When you are afraid or nervous, real or just dreaming, your body reacts to it.  Often this includes a strong heartbeat.

I had a dream of a sexual nature and it was so real.  I woke up and my heart was really pounding and I was breathing heavy....best dream I ever had.

Re: Do You Get Nightmares?

[ Edited ]

Yes, every night as a child and well into my 30’s.  They began abating somewhat but I still have them.  To this day I’m afraid to sleep in the dark so I keep the light on.
