I now buy most of my cards at the dollar store. Some are two for a dollar, but sometimes I "splurge" and buy one of the $1 ones. I used to spend more on cards, or even made them myself. But when I found out that most of them get thrown away, I was crushed. Even the ones I quite literally spent hours working on!
I couldn't believe it when i was told that some people think hand made cards are just a way of being cheap. For crying out loud, some of the materials cost more to make the crds than to buy one already made. Not to mention the time spent hand embossing, quilling, intricate cutting, etc. I guess some people have no real concept of how much work can go into crafiting something beautiful. If I had known that so many were thrown away, I would have asked for them back! I could have reused the qulling designs in other projects.
I have one friend who does love and appreciate special cards, so I still get (or make) her special ones. Everyone else - Dollar Tree, here I come.

Do I buy 50% off cards? No way. I buy 50 cent cards at the Dollar Tree. If I can't find what I want there (which is rare), then I go to Walmart. They have a $1 section in their cards. I think they are Hallmark. Rarely do I ever need to pay more than $1 for a card.
I also keep a lot of All Occasion cards on hand. You can buy them buy the box. I think I just paid $14 for a box of 50 cards. Also, it seems that a lot of charities now send out small packs of greeting cards (5-6 cards) instead of those address stickers. It's nice to have some just plain cards too, so I can "make do" if I don't have just the right card for the occasion.
I'm learning to be a penny pincher in my retirement! ![]()
