I know this is an unimportant topic but was wondering if most of you purchase cards at a 50% off store or Hallmark? I use to only buy Hallmark cards but the mall near me doesn't have a store anymore. Really I find the 50% off stores have a very nice selection of cards. Most people read a card and toss it out in a day or two unless it is special to you. I was in CVS looking for a card and found one that was $2.99 and it wasn't anything special. I figure for the same $3.00 I can probably get 2 or 1 1/2 cards.

Wherever I find a card I like, I buy it. Hallmark, grocery store, Target, gift shop. I don't care. I've bought some at the post office before because they carry a Hallmark line that I really like (Sunrise).
My Christmas cards for this year are coming from a local stationary/paper/ gift type store.

I get most of mine at a nearby Hallmark store. They might have 50% off boxes of Christmas cards at times. They send me coupons for $ off my next purchases. Was there just the other week to get a lot of cards for October and November. DH noticed that there were a lot of empty spaces on shelves and i.e. very few birthday cards for Grandsons. He asked the clerk if they were going out of business or moving. The clerk said no, that they were awaiting a late shipment of product. Don't know if that was just a corporate answer to the situation. Will see soon enough. Empty shelf space is not a good sign.

I buy a card suited for the person I am sending it to regardless of price. It could be a dollar store card or an expensive one.

CVS often does a buy two get one free sale on their card -I try to time all my buying to that kind of sale because I do prefer Hallmark to many other brands.

Family Dollar often has wonderful cards for a dollar or two, really nice looking. They are sometimes on an endcap in their own area. I was pleasantly surprised when I noticed them, and now they are a go-to for me.

I cannot tell you when the last time I was in an actual Hallmark store. There just aren't any in my area.
Depending on the circumstances, I often will buy my cards at the Dollar Tree. For certain birthdays where I am looking for a funny card, I buy them at the grocery store, drugstore or "mart" type store.

I mostly buy cards at the grocery store or Target. I very rarely go into the Hallmark store.
I've found some really nice Christmas cards at Costco

@StylishLady, does Hallmark still have their reward program? I had a card from them and would get points for every dollar I spent. I would then get a coupon for money off my next purchase. There isn't a Hallmark card store anywhere near me, I always liked shopping there.

I buy the majority of my cards at Dollar General, Wal-Mart, Meijer, etc. I refuse to pay over $3.00 for a card and you can find some nice ones under that price. OK, they're not exactly high-end but they are still pretty nice. I used to buy all my cards at Party City but they moved to a much much smaller location and only have a handful of cards now. I don't even know where the nearest Hallmark store is but I was never fond of them (in general) anyway.
