Re: New Trend For Waiting At Traffic Signals

I really haven't noticed.  I don't like to assume what others are doing since it's all but impossible to see into another car in front of me ....but I drive defensively.

One thing that did alarm me last week while driving down 295 in NJ (there are cops everywhere and are always stopping cars), I along with the other cars were driving aroun 70mph when all of a sudden a motorcycle came up very quickly zig zagging and going twice the speed as everyone else.  Too bad he wasn't stopped since we saw a police car only a few miles up the road.

Maybe someone has seen the same article I did ....

Some country ... maybe Japan .... has instituted some sort of "block" at intersection corners so you have no cell signal.  The purpose is to MAKE pedestrians look up when intending to cross the street because they need to look before stepping off the curb and getting out of the blocked area.  Too many people killed because they weren't watching for cars.

That was what George Carlin called "God's way of thinning the herd".

@Lucky Charm

The cameras are not there specifically to catch texting; they catch people who run red lights, catch fugitives who have APB alerts, stolen vehicles, Amber Alerts, drug traffickers, and provide accurate documentation for traffic accidents in that area.

From the time you hit the WV line at East River Mountain tunnels on I-77, you can be seen on a traffic camera for the entire length of that highway.  Same for I-64. Same for US Hwy 19, etc.

Re: Disturbing Trend For Waiting At Traffic Signals

If I'm first in line at a red light, once it turns green I will always wait until I make sure traffic coming the other way stops before I go ahead.

They can blow their horns behind me until the cows come home, I'm not going until I'm sure I'm not going to get broadsided or killed.

Re: Disturbing Trend For Waiting At Traffic Signals

It's not too smart to honk at people now a day's. I just as soon wait until they move rather than risk my life. Road rage is common these day's and honking at someone could get you DEAD. No place that I am going is so important that I am willing to die.

No, you're not the only one that finds not moving through the light disturbing at all.

Add to that, how about sitting in the passing lane under the speed limit and texting.  I have no patience for that behavior.

Re: Disturbing Trend For Waiting At Traffic Signals

@RedTop  so far a lot of the States are doing that also. Here in Georgia it's very popular. You get the ticket in the mail and you wonder why you got a ticket.

Now most of the school zones here have cameras also. One thing that people are opposed to is between 10 to 1pm you can still get a ticket even though the kids are in school. It should only be when the yellow light is flashing in the school zone so some have taken it to court.

Re: New Trend For Waiting At Traffic Signals

Speaking of motorcycles.  I was sitting in the center lane of a 3 lane highway at a light. The light turned green and a motorcycle aways back was too impatient and zipped up between my car and the one on the left.  Needless to say I almost had a heart attack it scared me so much.

Next light I hit red and he was at the front.  When it turned green he was gone. This road is 55 with subdivisions on the right and a military base on the left. He must of be doing around 80 to 90 that is how fast he was going.  Fast forward about 6 miles down the road and I passed him because the police that I saw when I left my house to go to the store decided to hang around for about and hour and got him.  I was so happy I raised my fist at him and smiled.  This was last week.

Why does everyone find everything so "scary in the world these days."    Have they forgotten so easily that before "texting" distracted drivers were lighting a cigarette, drinking/drunk, changing the radio station, etc.

Nah, I'm not scared of them, just annoyed at the ignorant twits that do it, that's all.

@CelticCrafter

Well, the real point here is how long do you wait?  5 seconds?  15 seconds?
