Re: Did you stick around your hometown after H.S. graduation, or not?

Yes. Stayed in my hometown until I meant my husband and then moved to his home state.

No. College then marriage. I only went back to visit my family.

I grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area so I have gone back to take my grandchildren to see the sights of northern California. It's a beautiful place to visit but I don't have any desire to live there again.

From the conference room in my office (10th floor) I can see the hospital I and my Mom were both born in.  I did move off twice in the 90's for my former husband's company transfers but came back when they were completed.

[ Edited ]

I was 17 When I graduated HS in 1973. ...  I got an job as a waitress and stayed in that town for about  a year.  It was a tiny little town. in Eastern Washington....When I left that town I never looked back.... did a lot of traveling for the next 5 years....   I lived in Portland for a while... and San Diego for awhile... I did not know anyone at either of these places... I just got on a train or on a grey hound bus and just WENT  someplace...I always could get a job... and a apartment.  It was easier in those days to survive with not too much money...... I was rather a lost soul. Looking for SOMETHING...  I did not know what.

I did find my Husband on one of my many travels   In Sun Valley Idaho...... at age 22 and  we married two years later...have been with him ever since.   We lived in Sun Valley for 10 years... and then moved to Seattle and have resided here ever since.

Looking back from the early days.. I am just amazed at everything that happened in all those years...

You are all so lucky.  I am still in my same little rural midwestern hometown that I grew up in.  Oh, it has its advantages but it wasn't until later in my life that I desired to live elsewhere with a little more activity.  However, I don't see myself moving now.

Re: Did you stick around your hometown after H.S. graduation, or not?

I stayed within about 50 miles from where I was born, went to school, married and have lived here for 48 years.

I used to love Virginia.  With the changes I've seen it's no longer my favorite place.  None of the changes were for the better.

I live in what used to be rural Virginia.  But the city people moved here and people from other states because it's so close to DC that the dynamics has changed....not for the better.

We used to love our two lane country roads.  The trees that lined the roads, the schools where everyone knew each other.

That no longer exists.  My community is where many people don't know each other.

I know that's true of many places in the US.

My late husband's family goes to the Jamestown settlers.  He lived a short time traveling with his Dad but always came back to Va; so he was here to stay.

If I was younger I'd live in Colorado.  I'd buy my youngest daughter a house (she's single, no children) and live in a house separate on the land.

I know how to build houses as my late husband taught me (he was a builder among other things).

But it takes stamina and hiring the right people.  I can't even find good people to repair things on my house now.

I told my youngest daughter (who's never been married), I wish she'd marry and handyman like her Dad was.  My husband fixed everything.  He even put new heating elements in my dryer and in my hot water heater.  He worked on all of our cars (there were 6 of them).

I told him that I get asked by other's how he learned to do so many things.  He'd laugh and say the main reason is I'm not afraid to try it and if I can't do it I'll go to the library and look in a book (that was when personal computers were just coming out).

Anyway, I'll be here til I die.  My girls have been helping me reorganize my house (I've given away 12 full trash bags full of clothes and I'm not nearly finished.  It's hard to do because some were never even worn.  I know some of you ....same thing.

Nope.  I'd give details of my college years but that may entail several pleadings of the fifth.  Smiley Surprised

Unfortunately, yes.  Retirement,  hitting the road for a new place to live.

Yes. Husband was born in Phoenix and I moved here when I was 4 so I don't know any better. We both went to school in Phoenix and now we live in a suburb of Phoenix.
