Dessert Mac & Cheese?

[ Edited ]

My twitter feed is going crazy with this!

And the responses are very predicable...and so funny!

Most are not ok with this fusion.

I’ve never heard of sweet mac/cheese...is it a regional thing?

Or a generational recipe?

That's a thing now; turning savory dishes into desserts.  But not for me.  I suppose it's no different than rice pudding for bread pudding but for some reason, it just seems wrong.

There is no subtlty in food now.  It's so often a gross mismash of everything full of fat and sugar you can pile together.  The French must think we are all insane.  What happened to very good ingredients simply prepared?

Everything elegant has simply gone out the window.

My dad used to eat mac&cheese with tuna fish.

He used to have weird concoctions.

Apple pie w/ a slice of cheddar cheese,

salting watermelon & eating beef tongue, so...

My mom always put tuna in her mac&cheese and tuna in her macaroni salad.  Apple with a slice of cheddar is a classic.  My father was the only one I ever knew who put salt on watermelon and on cantalope.  I always thought that was weird, I still do.

A kugel is a sweet noodle casserole; why not mac and cheese?

Use a mild cheese and sweeten the cream sauce...add fruit, raisins and/or nuts!

In Arkansas, they eat green strawberries and salt!

I only put salt on my watermelon if it isn't that sweet to start with.

@sidsmom

I always make my mac and cheese with tuna!  I use cheddar cheese, tuna, chopped chili peppers and a small can of peas ... topped off with french fried onions and crushed Doritos!  Delicious!
