I don't know if you will have time in your current location, but when you get to Colorado, call the local animal shelter. They often have support groups for people who are grieving the loss of a pet and it doesn't matter if the loss was recent, as in your case, or years ago as is true for others. As much as it hurts right now try to consume yourself with packing. It'll take your mind off of your grief. It took me awhile to reach this point but the way I reasoned with myself when my pet died is it was their time here on earth. They lived a wonderful life with me. I was chosen to be their owner. I loved every minute of it but it was their time. Let yourself grieve but perhaps when you are all settled in CO leave your heart open to adopting another best friend. I know exactly how you feel. Time does help. Good luck.
