I am not going to compare diseases or symptoms, I just gave my personal opinion based on seeing what my sister has been living with for almost 40 years.

I know in my personal case, my sister finds it horrible that she is losing control of her body due to MS and HATES it. It makes her sad, depressed and that is not funny.

She even came to Halloween as a "sexy nurse"..Both her and her caretaker are AMAZING!

I didn't find the "joke" amusing but I also don't feel the need to make her feel any worse than she probably does now...and it DOES make a good point, especially for those us who have witnessed it...

Well said EMT. We are all different. Everyone copes differently. I cope with pain and anguish with humor. It's not for everyone.

I just got out of shower and wanted to post in better words what I meant...but you did that for me...

MARIANNE- I am TRULY sorry for what your sister is going through....From the DEEPEST part of my heart...

That said, the O.P did NOT start this with malicious intent... That's all...

ETA- I used to get SO ANGRY with Dr.'s , nurses,Police officers, EMTS and even Sean( GOD rest his soul) for making "callous" jokes...

Sean- finally said.. " don't you understand? THIS is how some of us deal with the tragedy we see day in and day out...It keeps us from throwing ourselves off a building"...

I think there is a difference between one finding the humor (and expressing it) about one's own medical condition vs. those people who have to watch their loved ones suffering and not finding it humorous.
