Re: Demise of the Paper Check?

Humm, how will I pay my lawn man?  Cash?  That will be a pain in the rear.

Re: Demise of the Paper Check?

I write about 3 checks a year. It wouldn't bother me at all if paper checks went the way of buggy whips.

yes there are some ppl and places that will only take checks. For me it was the dog groomer and the chorus i was a member of. Only checks for monthly dues. Also some service providers in my area like tree trimmers, guys who install garage screens etc. They dont want the fees charged by cc companies. How will that work if paper checks are eliminated

Re: Demise of the Paper Check?

I get it with AI as a fast changing world but I think it is a bit too fast for those who do not understand it.

It seemed to happen overnight when I was talking to robots which I called A...H.... and nothing is right.  A bit too soon too fast?

The over 55 will be gone soon enough, so you robots can take over with no problem.

So far they are doing a horrid job and I feel sorry for those where this method was thrown on them out of nowhere even we knew it was coming. I adapted but many can't, and it is shameful for those who worked all their life to now be confused on how to live even?  All of a sudden?

And I will add the robots are dumb and not ready for a primetime release at all either.

Re: Demise of the Paper Check?

I have only had time to read about half of the replies on this thread, but I have not seen anyone say that a significant value of check writing is the hard copy they provide for tax records in the case of  an audit. Receipts, or thank you letters, are not consistently received from charities, and hard copy receipts are not always received for other tax deductible expenditures. Without a printer or smart phone, I need either hard copy receipts or a photo of a cancelled check from my bank, which I consistently receive, as proof for the deduction on my retutn. I am a proud low-tech old lady with many legal tax deductions each year, and I do not think that the govt. should complicate, or add expenses to my right to deduct specific items  on my return by requiring that I acquire new unwanted technology to "prove" my deductions in the event of an audit. If they do, then the unwanted phone and printer should be deductible!

Re: Demise of the Paper Check?

@monicakm  you will go to the bank once a month like i stated earlier, figure out about how much you will need with a drive thru bank and voila it is done.  I ask for 10, 20, 5, a multitude of different anounts of cash.  Not a problem to figure it out.

People do like cash.  I see their eyes brighten, Yep And I know what I am spending as well on a monthly basis to my benefit instead of swiping endlessly. lol.

I sort through monthly online statements, @Q-Checker, for donations and medical expenses. The pharmacy and the dentist print out a yearly statement for me. It's a routine request for them.

If your cash is lost or stolen, there's no recourse though.

@tansy  Sorting through" monthly online statements does not provide proof of th expense unless I misunderstood something. Are you sorting through hard copies?
