The elimination of paper checks would make me very sad.  I pay all my bills by check, pay repairmen when they come to my house by check, and send gift checks through the mail. Some people I deal with like my landscaper can only be paid by check and not sure who else falls into this category.  I write a lot of checks.

Yes, I'm old school and stuck in my ways and feel more comfortable mailing a check on the day I want.  Still not comfortable paying bills on line, but I'm sure at some point I'll have to adjust my ways.

@Biftu

I am not comfortable having all my banking info on line.  Everything gets hacked these days.  You get told -- this is so secure, that is so secure.  It's a bunch of bs.  Nothing is secure these days.  Why do we have to have everyone in our business forcing us to do whar they want us to do?

@AngelPuppy1   I'm not comfortable paying our bills online either.   No such thing as totally secure . I'm worried about hacking ,  I don't need all my info out there.    I prefer checks ,  hope they arent done away with .   Why must everything be updated and changed .   Everything has to be online for whatever reason.   Old school when it comes to checks for me.

We were in a store the other day and saw a women write a paper check. Very surprised.

I pay my bills at home with checks but I don't stand in line at stores doing this.  I either pay with cash or a card.  I think it holds everything up for others when people do this.

yes me too only at home .  In stores or anywhere else credit card,  or cash.

Re: Demise of the Paper Check?

I pay all my bills, minus one, online.  I have bill pay thru my bank they are paid that way.  The only bill that is automatic is my cable bill and dummy me cannot figure how to change that.

My HOA is paid by check even though I had requested paying on line.  I filled out the needed paperwork, but still paying thru a check.  Maybe I'll purposely pay it late and tell them "the check is in the mail".Woman Wink

I realize it's no comfort to people who don't want change, but please do the research.  It's actually much less safe to send a check than online bill payments.

Checks are vulnerable to forgery, alterations, and varying forms of theft.  Theft can be from stealing mail, manually copying bank account routing and account number, check washing (altering the dollar amount and/or the payee), etc.  There are so many modern fraud tactics that make checks unsafe.

Perhaps set up one bill payment electronically to try to get used to the process.  There may be no paper options soon.

 Yes, I thought of that. But I'm thinking humans don't get to see all of the checks flying by, probably in a machine or something. Anyway, so far so good.

@Judaline

Anyone you write a check to can just take a picture of it, and they have your routing and account number (and often address) forever.

Seems to me that if they have already stopped making pennies, at some point, check writing will also be going the way of the dodo bird.

Re: Demise of the Paper Check?

@THEY CallMe Mr Wilkes I only write a paper check if the payee is standing over my shoulder wanting immediate payment; those times are very few.  For everyone else, I pay bills through my bank's on-line bill pay.  How they effect payment is up to them.

Glad to see I'm not the only one who feels checks are needed. I only write a few checks per year but as some have expressed, I will not allow automatic withdrawals from my account to pay a bill. I want control of my withdrawals.

Auto payments are optional.  Paying bills via my bank gives me more control than any other way.

Re: Demise of the Paper Check?

I write all my bills via a check except for my bi-annual auto insurance.

I will continue to do so especially since I just purchased several new packs from my bank.

The beauty shop I go to charges 4% for credit and bank cards so if I do not have cash (I seldom carry it) I write a check. The checkout gal says that is what most of the clients do.

That is the one place I have always given cash.  My hairdresser since 1996 as a last name a mile long and even as a stamp so her clients do not need to know how to spell it if they write a check.  Cash for all these decades to report or not to report is up to her.
