BTW... I think it looks nicer when you gift a check for a wedding or a gift instead of transferring money into an online wedding account, or sticking cash in a card.
That being said, if it gets lost your account number is out there for anyone to find. I keep my 🤞 every time I do my bills, no matter what method I choose.

None of my electronic bill payments are automatic, none. I always maintain complete control of when I pay my bills.
No checks does not mean giving it up to automatic bill payments. That's a completely separate issue.

I write checks to my grand kids for special occasions. Also to repairmen who come into my home and dont take credit cards or they want to charge me a fee for using a CC. Also for things like a wedding present. Or for a donation to a small place like a church who does not take credit cards, I have a debit card but never use it. Dont do Venmo or Zelle.

I still work part time and still get paid in a paper check.

The beauty shop I go to charges 4% for credit and bank cards so if I do not have cash (I seldom carry it) I write a check. The checkout gal says that is what most of the clients do.

I pay all of my bills online. I very seldom have to write a check. My checks still are dated 19__, so I haven't ordered any new ones for at least 25 years.
My husband still uses checks for everything. As soon as a bill comes in. The very same day, he sits down and writes a check and runs to the post office.
I once talked him into paying our water bill online and they charged a fee to pay on line. Well, that was it. He will no longer entertain paying bills online. According to him, a stamp and check is cheaper than an online fee.
I keep telling him that checks will be obsolete in the future and he will have no choice, but he says he will deal with that when the day comes and it's not here yet.

I pay my bills at home with checks but I don't stand in line at stores doing this. I either pay with cash or a card. I think it holds everything up for others when people do this.
I don't write checks in stores, but for those that do it only takes a minute to write a check. No major line holdup.
If you're gonna write a check in a store in person, you may as well use your debit card. Most stores process the check through their register and hand back the paper check to you. They only need the routing number and account number to get paid from your checking account.
This also insures that they won't get stuck with a bounced check. They get their money transferred immediately.

Company's that charge a fee for using a cc or debit card always have an option for an echeck and you are not charged a fee. I use that frequently with no problems.
When I used to write checks and run out, it was a nail biter wondering if my new checks would get stolen from my mail box...this was before "informed delivery."
I have been stunned to see that one of my utilities charge for using plastic but not for an echeck. Phone payment are an option too and a breeze, I've done it and at no charge. I used the automated voice and never had to wait for a rep.
When I need help with my property, such as a water heater replacement, I made a trip to my bank and pulled out the money from the ATM and paid in cash. I realize some have a limit on their ATM withdrawals and that would be problematic if the bank is closed. I'm able to pull out $1,000 per day which is what I was charged by the plumber who brought me a new water heater and installed it with a helper. Pulling out the old one was a task. I stood there and observed.

I have mixed feelings about it. Most of the doctor's offices I visit don't accept checks, stating the banks charge them high fees. Some will take cash, which I try to do. This applies only to co-pays for office visits. It's just not doctor's office that I've encounered "which way to pay." Recently had a new roof put on, $30k. If we put it on a credit or debit card there would be a 3% finance charge. Only way to not pay a finance charge was a check. I've been told by a lot of companies that I've had major work done to the house by that the finance charge that was put onto them (the business) has now been put onto the customer. Some other companies we deal with will only take a credit card and want it on file for autopay which hasn't always gone well. With the way the post office handles mail, the thought of check fraud concerns me a lot.
