Kitty, Are his family members going to Alanon?  That can be very helpful in these situations.  A month is good expecially if he is doing it for him, not because he has no access.  Prayers for your loved one for more time in sobriety to work things out.  Stinkin thinkin hasn't gone yet and if he still hangs out with old friends that is a recipe for disaster.

Kitty are you a recovering alcoholic? I'm curious, how many here reading this thread are and if you have been successful in stopping, was it your choice or your disease is in remission ?
AA has the 12 steps and traditions. None say it's a disease.
Since only 3 in 100 achieve long term success, telling us it's not our fault, we can't help we have this disease, is not helpful.

Alcoholism is concidered a disease because it is addictive, and must be with drawn carefully, and a host of others factors.  BUT, there are personal choices.  Because you have a disease doesn't mean you can't overcome it.  Yes, people need to make choices.  I know men and women who have chosen abstinence because their parents were full blown alcoholics, as well as many relatives.  Others just start, knowing they could be the 1 in 3 kids born from alcoholics that becomes an alcoholic.

I praise and laud anyone who is in recovery and able to maintain sobriety.  It is NOT easy.  It is with one all the time.

Esmeralda...you are a winner!

He's actually a friend's son, and he got rid of his "drinkin' buddies" when he got rid of the drinking!  They are never friends when they're needed anyway, especially if one stops and the others don't.  Not sure if they're going to Al-Anon - it's a good resource.
