I'm looking for a dress for my daughter to wear at a wedding. Are the styles now that the length of the dress is several inches above the knee? When I look on line and see them on the models, it looks so short to me and that it's a size or two too small. I've always gotten her dresses that fall just slightly above the knee. No, I'm not being a prude. The girls look lovely but it's just so short. What's your opinions?

How old is she? Having her mother pick her dress may make for one unhappy girl.

Go to nordstrom.com. They have a whole area devoted to what to wear to weddings. I'm sure they have dresses for tweens.

I don't know how old she or how tall she is, but dresses are very short.
My daughter is now 5'10" and it was very difficult finding dresses that barely covered her behind.
I don't have any advice, but put in a search for dresses in the length you need and see what comes up.

Oh, I let her pick it out. She's 14, but a young 14.

@ScrapHappy - I think your daughter will want a dress that her friends would wear too, and that is one that is probably a few (or more) inches above the knee. If she feels comfortable wearing one that short, I would let her. The two of you can look online and get an idea of what girls her age would wear to a wedding.
When my DD was her age there was a mall store that sold dresses made for them. It's gone now, but there are probably other stores, and even Macy's that has a nice juniors department. A saleslady there could help the two of you select some nice dresses for her to try! ![]()

short is definitely what many are wearing......they call it fingertip length i believe. the bottom of the dress or skirt ends where your fingertips are when standing straight. this is the criteria they use for school dances and events in our area.

14 is old enough to determine the length of a dress.
