DOES ANYONE MAKE DOLL CLOTHES?

I have an almost three year old grand daughter.  I have been saving some of my clothes that I otherwise would have donated, thinking I can use the material to make doll clothes for her.  What I would like, if it exists, is to buy a doll or even a stuffed bear, that comes with patterns to make clothes to fit it.  I have not begun to look online yet and I will.  I was just hoping that someone here can make any suggestions or has any experience in this area of sewing.

Always remember that you are absolutely unique. Just like everyone else. Margaret Mead

Re: DOES ANYONE MAKE DOLL CLOTHES?

The major pattern manufacturers used to have doll clothes patterns in their catalogs in fabric stores.  Maybe they still do.

They still sell patterns, just be careful to match doll size.

Sewing little items can be tricky but fun.

Be aware that kids can be a little rough, go with durable fabrics.

My granddaughter has some doll clothes my mom made for me.  I enjoy seeing them being used.

Have fun!

Re: DOES ANYONE MAKE DOLL CLOTHES?

I can't help you, but this brought to mind a happy memory. My mother's first cousin ( she was older than my mom) was such a sweet lovely woman. Anyway she knew I loved my Barbie dolls, she crocheted a lot of outfits for Barbie. My face would light up when she gave me the clothing.

Re: DOES ANYONE MAKE DOLL CLOTHES?

I have a family member who makes clothes to fit Barbie, and the American Girl dolls. She took outfits apart to use as patterns, and makes beautiful outfits.

We have no little girls in our family now, but she continues to make the clothes and eventually finds someone with nieces or granddaughters who are thrilled to get the clothes.

Check out Etsy. They have cute patterns for cloth, crocheted and knitted dolls and also have patters for clothing to fit them.

Re: DOES ANYONE MAKE DOLL CLOTHES?

People will make memory quilts, bears and pillows from clothing.

If I were going to do that, I would make a simple quilt. Just squares, no particular pattern.

You could look on Pinterest for ideas.

If you are on Facebook there is a group called Quilting - Perfectly Imperfect that you could join for ideas also.

My mom used to sew doll clothes. She was an excellent seamstress. I can't sew. The American Girl things are overpriced or at least they used to be. Very cute stuff though.

Re: DOES ANYONE MAKE DOLL CLOTHES?

My granddaughter has a 9" ragdoll we got her from Hawaii. Every time I make my granddaughter a dress, I make one for the doll.

Really, the doll is a funny shape! The first dress I made couldn't close and the arm openings were a snug fit. Finally, I made my own basic pattern, bodice front & back & skirt, so I just adapt everything from that.

I have yet to make this doll any sleeves in her dresses. I would have to hand sew, and that's not really my specialty.

I believe you can also find free doll clothes patterns on line.
