My daughter in law just went to Costco. I asked her to pick up one package of Charmin TP for me, which she was able to do. She saw people with several packages of TP in their carts. Kirkland TP was already gone and another customer saw her Charmin and was told that was gone too.

She wanted to get water but that was gone.

There can't be shortages already but people panicking and hoarding will make things worse.

Stores will need to limit quanity of products like they did during Covid.

I hope the strike doesn't last long.

Hi @azgal

You just reminded me!

COVID has been making its rounds and INCREASINGLY too, already!

So, now, It's more impossible to really know the total effects,m  incl per location,  of:

  *  Helene,

Dock Strike (what and how items would be rerouted, possibly), and Fast moving, possibly less deadly,

  * COVID.. This current COVID is apparently, believed to supposedly, not be as sickly or deadly, but travels fast & wide, supposedly.

So I'd suggest, just evaluating your particular kind, amount, & speed rate, of specific items you use, (all the way down to bananas  heh)   and just do what you have to do accordingly, FOR YOU & loved ones.

That would perhaps, more s, manage any panicked buying, storing of one's own particular essentials.    IMHO

TRUST that ppl just know their own usage, & trust their own good sense!  IMHO

As anticipated, the hoarding mentality has already kicked in, even for items where it's unnecessary due to misunderstanding, false reports and bad information.   Very sad.

Hi @THEY CallMe Mr Wilkes

I dont mean to offend, but, I suspect "freaking out," about "fear of  people 'freaking out,'"  might not arrest the "fear of even more ppl panicked buying/hoarding."   (I'm kind of seeing that now, already).     Just imho.

In reality, I think it would be great if dockworkers were making $300,000 without having work a million hours and break their bodies. Thanks for posting the facts which seem to be more in line with reality. Sure it can be a good living, but there's a sacrifice in the number of hours you have to work and the toll on the body. I bet there's an expiration date on being able to perform that kind of work.

I'm pro-union, so I don't mind giving up my non-essentials until the workers get what they need.

Like a Professional Athlete, often the early toll it can take on them, & their bodies also.  And often early retirement.

At a press conference New York's Governor specifically noted the potential shortage of bananas for New Yorkers, citing the role that the Port Authority of NY/NJ plays in receiving and distributing this item.

She did direct New Yorkers to the overly abundant supply of New York State apples currently being harvested.  The crop is good this year!

Additionally,  she emphasized that many vital medications for New Yorkers from overseas are transported into the State via air cargo.

Can't imagine how the powers that be would want Americns to be forced to deal with even more inflation and higher prices on groceriers, gas, and other goods. I know that construction materials are very dependent upon the east coast ports. With all the devastation from Helene, getting relief materials to rebuild and repair is a priority; let's hope the strike does not hurt that supply chain.

@Trailrun23

I'm not sure that whomever you're referring to - TPTB - would "want" Americans to be forced to do without.

The workers' UNION is negotiating a new contract.  Hopefully, they know what they're doing.

It's not going to be good for anyone if they are out on strike for a long period of time.

Dang!   This 6AM Amaz Prime Market groceries deliver is sooo kewl!

Frozen items, rock hard!  And given a no fee 2 hour window to deliver, they arrived 15 minutes into the 2 hrs.  FINE with me!

Hi @Kachina624  Woman Happy

In case you try to freeze your own fresh bananas, Id suggest you give it a trial first, before banana supply becomes last alternative for you.

I vaguely remember I bombed out, trying to freeze my own fresh bananas, either whole/halved- with skin, without skin, slices- with/without skin,  whole, wrapped saran tightly, or whatever method I could think of.  (eons ago)  Nuth'n worked then

@monicakm's research & pics, above look great.

@Kachina624    But I think I might get on with getting these ?froz? bananas kinda soon, sis, esp given your particular medical need!

And that bananas mentioned, specifically, as likely shortage during this Strike & other things going on.

I seem to remember that a lot of patients on BP meds were required to eat a banana a day.  So it was viewed seriously, then, perhaps still, as a sort of necessary, ancillary companion med.

(ADDED)

**BUT** for these patients/people, if they havent already, I suggest checking with your MD 1st, before implementing any of my knowledge  like this above.  k?     Woman Wink

@RedTop   Many people receive their checks at the first of the month so you are correct that stores are busy with shoppers and full carts.  Our Yoga class of Seniors was full and someone shouted "The S.S. checks arrived!"

@Maizie Green  and others:  many of the big box stores have been sending TP and water and other necessary items to NC, TN and other areas hit by Helene.
