On previous DNA threads I had mentioned that my twin sister had gotten her test done through Ancestry, there wasn't any point getting mine done. I was curious about my children because my ex- husband was adopted and had only known for a short time that his birth mother was Scots/Irish but we didn't know his birth father's lineage.
My son had his testing done and through his DNA we found that his matched my sister's and that Ancestry sent him and my twin notification that she was his mother. LOL
For the cynics out there, both tests were done months apart.

@dancingwoman wrote:Nice to see this thread go from a question being asked...to response's that are some hearsay...to those who actually used the DNA testing kits and gotten positive results...or even negative..
I'm sure there is some validity to those who heard negative things but I like myself to hear from those who actually had experience with the testing...that way I can make an educated choice based on results others have experienced...I mean no offense to anyone..DW
@dancingwoman, as someone who researched extensively both pre- and post-testing, both on the company sites and on other online sites, as well as having the tests, it makes me wince to read what people believe - what they have convinced themselves is true.
I've had no issues with the results I've gotten, because I knew beforehand what *type* of results I would *not* get. I think too many people believe they will get a specific answer to a very specific question. DNA testing doesn't work like that.

@Moonchilde I thoroughly enjoyed doing the 23andme....I agree..I've had no issues with my results..actually I loved the surprises my sister and I got...and the accuracy...I think I'll even do the Ancestry one too...DW

I find DNA to be absolutely fascinating. Remember however, that siblings can get different readings, why? Because it can be very complex. It’s true, you share DNA with your family, but each of you gets a unique mix and diferent amounts from your ancestors. The closer you can get to a DNA source, and the more sources you can identify, the more you can learn about your family.
So before you think you are being scammed because your sister's DNA had different results from your own... it can sure happen.
You may find this interesting:

I don't know which one they used, but I, both my parents, my cousin and her parents all have used the one from ancestry.com and we all came out related and with the correct relationships. I further used another test from family tree dna to test my mitichondrial dna and the results were very close.
Remember that we only get 50% of each parent's DNA so siblings will not have the same results. For example, my cousin has some DNA matches that my father has but I don't. The same with her father and me.
It is possible that the lab had a mix up. Maybe they should call the company and get a new free test.
When they filled out the info did they list their relatives names? or did they match them without knowing anything?

@Moonchilde Did you send either or both DNA raw data results to Promethease? Just wondered if you did were there differences in the results...Thanks...DW

@dancingwoman, I'm really only interested in the genealogy and ancestry aspect of DNA testing, and not into the medical aspect, so have no interest in sending to Promethease. From what I've read about how they come up with their data base and results, me personally, I wouldn't rely on the info without question.
Again, this is me personally - I'm at the age where it doesn't matter, because I'm on Medicare, but if I was in my 30s-50s I don't think I'd be sharing with some of these sites vis-a-vis obtaining insurance. The huge organizations like Ancestry and 23andme safeguard with number IDs and I'm sure Promethease *claims* to, but they haven't been around that long and seem to be run on a shoestring budget. My thought is, who knows what they'll do with the info, or how safeguarded your name is, when they decide they need to make a tidy profit up the road.

We are tracked every day...when we are on our computers...cell phones...vehicles...Cameras everywhere....The electric and water companys know how much utilities we are using...thats how they caught alot of people as growers...they could tell they were using more elec and water than normally....It happened here in Colorado..in my town...that was before it was legal...only a couple years ago...
The only true way for you not to be tracked is to be completely off the grid...with everything...and live in the woods away from civilization....DW
I'm an only child...is that who they call "big brother"?😉

@Moonchilde I started Medicare this month...so it really isn't a big deal to me either about the insurance...I thought it would be interesting to compare the findings with what I know is true...
Thanks for sharing what you know about DNA testing....DW
