I have an appt. In two week to renew license.  Gov. of ca. Ask all over 65 to say in.  I am way over 64, healthy, but Dr. says not to go because not a good place to be right now.  I have to have license because no one to help me and I don,t want it to expire.  I have been studying for test and feel I could teach the course, i,'ve studied so hard to pass.

I have not had a ticket or accident or caused one and still mentally alert.

I will call today and see what can be done.

Once you are over 70 in Ca. You need to go in for test.  Maybe they will extend the license for a period.  I feel that place is a Petri dish.

@qvcaddition    call them and ask what you can do to get an extenstion. If that does not help giving you an answer.. just let it go.. you probably are not driving much now anyway... and take care of it after this blows over... or whenever it becomes safer to go out in public spaces. I imagine that they will close down too here in a short time

In NJ they have been shut down and everyone has been given a 2 month extension on license, registration and inspection renewals.

Hope the local police are reminded of it on a daily basis.

I went last week and although I have no bad things to say about the other people waiting alongside with me, I do about the lady waiting on me. She was licking her fingers going through my paperwork and looking at my license! I was beyond disgusted.

i quickly took out my package of Clorox wipes and wiped everything down including all the paperwork and license.

Illinois

Last 2 renewals were through the mail

I was 19th in line before 8 am this morning

32 degrees

took 45 minutes to get inside the building

$30 bucks later

done

then Dunkin coffee and avocado toast

made corned beef, cabbage, potatoes and carrots

Red wine now

the weather is supposed to be worse tomorrow so I'm glad I went today

I wonder how it will be in 4 years

We are in AZ; DH's license was due to expire last Nov but DMV was closed for several months; they gave everyone a one year extension.  Extension expired last week so we went right over to renew his license.  From beginning to end it took 15 mins, including eye test.  I love AZ bureaucracy ( so MUCH more efficient than CA).

@qvcaddition I'm also in CA.  Drivers over 70 can now renew their licenses online through the DMV website because of the pandemic.

I am in the PNW and we can renew online also because of the pandemic.  My license expires in June but I decided to take advantage of not having to appear.  I renewed it last month for 6 years.

@qvcaddition  I believe licenses can now be renewed online due to Covid  - even if a test is required, unless you are looking for a Real ID.

My father who is nearly 90 and my son both renewed online with no issues at all.  You have to pay the fee (think its around $36) and they'll mail your license in a few weeks.

You have to create an account but it only takes a few minutes.

I would definitely give that a try before heading to the local office.  Also, if you have to go in and are unable to make an appointment, try going early on Saturday morning.  You can usually get in and out within an hour if you go on Saturday since most residents think they are closed.

One of the clerks told me that they have even had to send workers home on some Saturdays because it's so slow.  Otherwise, during the week without an appointment usually takes about 4 hours.

I had to renew my license before my birthday in December.  Colorado renewed my license online for 5 years. I am 74 years old. I had to answer a question about an eye exam which I get every year. I paid my fee and got my license in two weeks. Easy peasy.
