Re: Credit Card Fraud - Ugh 😡

[ Edited ]

@JeanLouiseFinch

I'm so sorry this has happened. I understand how very disconcerting this is. I've been there myself. Not thru Facebook but another online site that seemed off after a transaction.  I contacted the Fraud dept and they canceled the card and sent a new one overnight, per my request. The CS was awesome.

Like @RescueLover , I've had my card set up to alert me every time it is used, for every and any dollar amount. This is a wonderful feature and I'd urge everyone to consider adding this notification to their card.

Hi! @haddon9 🌸

Unfortunately sometimes local businesses like gas stations have had skimmers put on their readers.

And I know ALDIs readers got hacked few years back so it is possible that a local business that You go to got hacked. 😔

@RescueLover   I have thought about that.  The gas station actually has an attendant to pump gas and then there are local restaurants that will take the cc and come back with it.  ....who knows?

@JeanLouiseFinch  - So sorry this happened to you. I've had it happen more than once so now I check my credit card and bank accounts daily.

I had my CC declined when I tried to make a $1600 purchase at Nordstrom in the Philadelphia area.  I hadn't thought to call and advise them I'd be traveling.  Very embarrassing but I got my sister to cover it for me

Years ago that happened to me..It was Dec. besides buying gifts..I was buying stuff like crazy so the moving men could bring it to the new house..I got stopped in my tracks in the mattress store...Could have died when the guy said my card was denied..I called the bank right there in my car..gave them some password info and other stuff and the released the money to the store.

Recently...I got a call saying someone charged some stuff at Target in the store..never go to their store..The person had a lot of info about me(scary)..I don't do social media..Called the bank..they said there were no charges from Target and they closed that acct. They over nighted me a new card. What a PITA to notify everyone about a card change.

Unfortunately it's much more common that CCs are getting hacked through skimmers than online purchases.  I've been hearing more stories where this is what has happened--gas pumps, convenience stores, other places where people don't really want or need a receipt.

Re: Credit Card Fraud - Ugh 😡

Apparently the cc companies are very good at spotting unusual charges. I guess based upon your history?

We went to hole in the wall Mexican place and gave the server our cc. An hour later the cc company called and asked if we had ordered a lawn mower at WM on line. Nope. They had denied the transaction. Closed our cc.

We called the little place and told the manager what had happened. He said all my employees are honest. Ok, fine.

My credit card was hacked last week. I got an unsolicited mailer from walmart.com, and inside was a $1 pack of balloons. I received another package, same thing inside the next day. I googled it, and there was a woman on Tiktok who was getting walmart grocery deliveries that she didn't order (like one banana). Apparently it's a scam and to check your bank accounts. I checked mine, and there were two charges for walmart.com on a card that I never use. One for $39 and another for $47. I immediately locked the card and contacted their fraud department. Said there was another walmart.com charge coming through for $100.They cancelled my card and issued another one. I contacted Walmart's fraud department, and they could only give me name of the sender, but not the address. They told me sender lives in the U.S. Said they will be investigating it.

Re: Credit Card Fraud - Ugh 😡

@JeanLouiseFinch   Check credit bureau. This happened to my husband before Covid. It was. A nightmare. Luckily we had Experion, and they flagged it first, as did HSN. I didn't have an acct there, nor did I shop there, and he certainly didn't lol. But these people opened credit cards all over. hSN was one. They opened up, charged  a big TV, and a few other things. hSN is on the ball, huge fraud dept. all they woukd tell me , because of leaking secrets, lol. Was when they ordered stuff, they opened a UPS My Choice acct, and requested the shipping for the TV and such be rerouted to another address. This set off a hot button.  No one got a thing.  But here is the hard part, HSN, Citi Bank and others refused to persue it, even tho they had address, because there was no money lost.
anyway took a month or two of paper work, reporting, and things were taken care of by Experion. They were the mediators.  Just make sure they didn't open accts, and put a freeze on your credit for a while.  We did this, and helped so much

Re: Credit Card Fraud - Ugh 😡

Just found out my new card is being delivered today.  I'm glad.  I was thinking it wouldn't be until Monday or Tuesday.

Wow, what a pain. I feel for you.

I investigated fraud for 20 years. There is no way I'll buy through any social media. Too many scammers. I shop only from known reputable companies. That doesn't mean the are scam-free but it's less likely.
