I think they do that in all costco stores. shop lifting is a huge cost to stores. This keeps costs down and memberships low.

I've become addicted to an easy meal of the quinoa tabbouleh combined with their marinated shrimp. Delicious!

Two times I have been double charged for an item. Both times it was caught at the exit. I would have caught it at home, but then it is hard to prove. I am glad the exit people are there.

That is why I do not shop there, I feel like they think I am a thief with no cause to think that. The guard says it is to be sure your prices were rung up correctly, but how the heck does the guard know all the prices? He did not say he was counting items and comparing the total on the receipt, he specifically said he was checking the prices. Do all Costco's have the exit inspection?
I doubt they are checking prices, they don't have bags, they just need to make sure no one is picking up anything extra, it does not bother me, it may help keep prices down. Sams does it too.
So does BJ's and WalMart

Ever hear the person putting the groceries in bags tell the checker that the cart is empty or ask the checker if she got the sodas? Grocery stores do the same thing, just in a different manner.
The magic marker stripe on a Costco receipt is also a means for customer protection. It means you went through the exit appropriately. I don't have a problem going through the exit and having my basket checked against my receipt. If the line gets to be too long another person is brought in to check. It's for their protection against theft and mine too. It's a sure-fire way to keep shoplifting down. To put it delicately, it also keeps the cashiers honest. No collusion with a customer not to ring up a large ticket item.

Our WalMart used to check receipts back when there was a greeter at the entrance/exits. Since they did away with the greeters there's no one to do the checking. They were looking to basically make sure any big ticket items were on the receipt. Sometimes it was a fast glance, other times the greeter really, really looked especially if something wasn't in a bag.

Doesn't bother us at all when they check our stuff and receipt at BJ's.. BestBuy does the very same. Lots of companies, am sure, are tired of people walking off with their merchandise.

Our Walmart's here have receipt checkers/greeters. They have stopped me when I had a bag of dog food, box of litter, or other things that won't fit in bags. They barely glance at the receipt and then they mark it with a high-lighter. It's annoying, I don't think they really actually looked.
Our Sam's here is pretty nice. It's overwhelming to me. We're new(er) members so we're still exploring. I found some shoppers rude, like really, I am sure they have plenty more giant cans of nacho cheese, no need to push/rush. Some of the bulk stuff we wouldn't need/use. Like, I don't need 50 pop tarts (or however many it is)

We are Costco fans. When a birthday or other gift giving day comes around, we ask for Costco gift cards. As there are only two of us, we have a freezer to store the items until we use them and then it's only what we need. There are nice trunk shows, and designer items offered each season. I like the ribbons and wrap and of course the food goodies. Too many things to mention.
