Re: Controversial and off topic threads....

@SaRina, okay then & that's why people handle things so differently.  Thanks for your advice!  Honey, I have no ego, I never had.  But when you make a smart and hurtful remark about my only child, then that's a whole different ball of wax.  I don't speak badly of those that have hurt me but I won't forget.. I see them posting, I stay clear.. they show their colors on their own..

Well, everyone has an ego, even me.  I don't claim to be perfect, but I've come a very long way.  I try to keep my ego in check most of the time.

 :-)

As far as the remark about your child, did you divulge personal info that perhaps you would have been better off not divulging, leaving you open to the nasties?  Not blaming you, but that's one sure way to avoid the possibility of hurtful remarks.  At any rate, if someone here did say something hurtful about one of my family members, it honestly wouldn't mean a thing to me because they don't know me or my family, or the circumstances of my life and my choices, and I don't know them, so their opinion is simply not important to me.

Not lecturing -- just trying to explain where I'm coming from.  Maybe it will be helpful to someone.

Yes, this is a retail site... their site.. their rules.  So many other places to go to find controversy.

Re: Controversial and off topic threads....

Controversial topics are tolerated; free-for-all bashing between posters, bigotry, and hate speech are not, thankfully.

There are a few disgruntled posters who will persist in deliberately wreaking havoc for lolz under various personae. So long as the moderators don't find a way to deal with deliberate disruptors, the agitators will keep it up. It's not QVC or the mods stifling conversation, it's trolls.

Re: Controversial and off topic threads....

I think everyone here has something to offer.

But... the constant badgering here gets on  my nerves. Everyone is not going to have the same opinion, and stop giving us the definition of a fact. Sheesh. You are not superior to anyone else here. If you have to reply to a topic over 20 times to pound it into the ground, we don't care and probably weren't listening to you anyway.

Ha!

that felt good.

Looks like the FOX bashers managed to get the thread about Elisabeth H. poofed. Such a shame, why can't they just mind their own business? They can discuss their friends on CNN and MSNBC, since they claim to not watch FNC.

I guess I missed that part about bashing Fox .....     I thought they were bashing EH!!

I think some people just like to throw it out there and let the wrestling match begin! Sorry, but half the time people throw out "facts" to back their argument and expect that we all will take it as gospel. I have a hard time taking those argumentative threads seriously. In my mind, they are hardly beneficial, seems like they get pretty crabby about almost anything. There is no way I would get any "facts" from a forum on a shopping network, yet there are those who seem to swallow the stuff without a hiccup!

All people on the boards are entitled to their opinions, which is different from fact, and that's when those threads get ugly and bully prone. Egos get in the way of harmony!

I actually really like and want facts. I just want them sourced so that I can visit the source and determine for myself if it's credible. Sourcing something from Facebook and Twitter isn't credible, as Fox News found out this week when they attributed a movie quote to Putin. You're right, it does make a lot of sense. Then we can read the intelligent posts without having to be bothered with the nonsensical, ill-informed people who believe all the lies and spew that garbage. Sadly, those folks will be voting which is really scary.

Re: Controversial and off topic threads....

I enjoy debate, have opinions, and like the controversial topics. What I DO appreciate here is the monitoring keeps really ugly things in check. If you go to the comments part of any of the major news home pages, you see some really nasty, personal attacks in place of debate. If you go to blog sites, you see filthy language, accusations, threats, etc. I appreciate that that doesn't happen here, no matter how frustrating the poofing is at times.
