Just a heads up.

It's the fear of the unknown that is so scary and another thing that is not comforting is that the experts really don't have answers either. So, we all just have to come together and help one another thru this. We WILL prevail. I know it. Much love to everyone & their loved ones on here and I hope you ALL stay safe!!
@BrandiDavis
People are so focused on grocery stores, posting all sorts of stories about empty shelve, long lines, full parking lots, that they forget there are people who cannot stock up, have limited income, food banks running out, and all types of hardships for many people. Lonely seniors or other housebound folks forgotten.
I really feel for the homeless.

Maybe they want to keep their lives as normal as possible.
Maybe they don't want to buy in to the fear and hysteria that the sky is falling.
Just go to the park, do something outdoors. No ball pits please. Every mom knows or should know they are bad news for germs.

Our family had 5 tickets for Broadway show 3/21. as soon as governor asked Broadway to close, Ticketmaster immediately issued complete refund and sent email confirming it. they are trying to help.

Caution......definitely yes
hysteria........NO
@Imaoldhippie My brother who is a physician; his sister-in-law who is an infectious disease specialist, and all his infectious disease specialist colleagues (who by the way are the experts in these matters) are saying that we should worry more about getting the flu. They are also saying wearing masks is totally useless in the prevention of getting sick. Just take some precautions and remain calm. The media, IMHO, is responsible for creating this panic.
I agree with you @Boehm Collector ... The media, which has become a modern day travesty, the fact that no real voice of authority took control of the situation early enough and, of course, the histrionic among us, like so many of those who have been living on message boards like this one, offering the latest 'updates', often competing with each other to see who can post the most the soonest and so often doing little more than fanning the flames of hysteria...

I truly believe some people feed off of any crisis, projecting the worst-actually hoping the worst will happen.
We've seen this time and again with hurricanes, floods, etc. through the years.
What is really troubling is that once this has passed, it won't be about the sick and those who passed away or those who went without decent food.
The big remembrance will be about toilet paper. While it is ok to have some levity about it, myself included, it seems to be THE big issue.

My sister manages a Hampton Inn, in the Portland, OR metro area.
Yesterday, one of her staff, went to their nearest Costco, for supplies. He came back and said it had been insane.
The parking lot and store were jammed, with people. People were arguing, Pushing, shoving, yelling at the employees, demanding they bring out more TP, and paper towels. A few people said they weren't leaving till they got, what they wanted.
Nutsy!

@BrandiDavis wrote:t now only the@gardenman You definitley bring up good points. Everything comes down to the numbers.
- Mortality rate
- Transmission rate
And we won't know the true numbers of infected until we get mass testing. Right now only the very ill or the very wealthy are able to be tested. We have no idea how many of the general population has or are carrying the virus. I've heard the numbers of H1N1 being bandied about. Facts are, that within 30 days of the first H1N1 diagnosis, over a million people in the US were tested. In this situation, after more than 50 days after the first diagnosis only about 10 thousand Americans were tested. Major fail in terms of epidemiology and data collection to intelligently make decisions regarding response actions and initiate research into treatment modalities.

I would rather stay home except for necessary trips out for the next month and take every precaution when I am out. If I find out that I deprived myself of shopping, entertainment or fun activities for the month for no good reason that will be just fine. I would rather be safe than sorry. I am going to read more books and maybe do some things inside I have been putting off. I do feel sorry for people who have children at home especially if they need babysitters while they have to go to work. This is a rough time for sure.
