We have furnaces mostly gas powered. Some older homes have wall panel heaters. Our biggest concern at the moment is the independent power grid having enough power for all of us.

@gidgetgh I've been here 20 years now and I don't think I've ever seen the temps go this low in GA. And I agree. I miss our sun!

I've already had to have a conversation with my coworkers who think they have no preparations to make with freezing temperatures. Brought them up to speed on turning off their water unless they want a free ice sculpture at some point in their house or business.

Why would you turn off your water? They tell us her to keep a steady stream flowing out of the inside house  faucets to keeps the faucets from freezing. Are you talking about OUTSIDE faucets?

At 6:56 am here in West Texas, the current temperature is 8, but the wind chill feels like -13. Brrr! Currently the wind is from the N at 25 mph. We are under a Wind Chill Advisory.

We are supposed to get the artic front here in South Texas this afternoon and temperatures in the teens......I took precautions just hope power and water stay on and no bursting of pipes..After last February's storm additional insulation was added, that should help ....Hoping no ice with this storm 🥶

STAY SAFE AND WARM EVERYONE

The cold front is not going to make it over our mountains in NM.  It's sunny with blue skies and in low 50s today in Albuquerque.  Our Eastern Plains had wind chills in minus 30s this morning.

We lived decades in the Tx Panhandle and never dripped faucets and rare power outage only if ice got on lines or maybe ice and wind. These were rare and restored in a few hours at most. Now in DFW it is crazy. Stores have full banks of lights on. Individuals have Christmas lights on. I may be over thinking this but 2 years ago outage was horrible. Our natural gas bill has trippled to make up for the cost of the power failure 2 years ago. Electric bill way way up too.

I knew the Lubbock area went on the grid. That leaves the panhandle and far east Texas as hold outs.

Hoping that this storm will be quicker and not as wide spread.

Whether on the Texas Grid or National Grid both require states and municipalities with the responsibility to maintain power
