Re: Cold storage for vaccine

@goldensrbest

All I can suggest to you is to keep aware of your state availability as it changes, and your local media for vaccination clinics.

According to my state guidelines I wasn't expecting to be able to be eligible until at least April. But at this weeks press conference my governor lowered the age for the general population early.  I was now eligible.

From my town's local newspaper and our local tv news, I knew that our small town just happened to be having a three day vaccine clinic just this week.  I tried calling and managed to get an appointment for the first shot.  I just got home a while ago.  I will be done with the second vaccine well before I thought I would even be eligible.

My point is that the situation is fluid and changing.  Our vaccine demand was starting to slow, so our state decided to add another small group to keep the demand steady.  Other groups are actually in line before mine, but the situation changed so the state decided not to follow its own guidelines to the letter.  You never know what's going to happen, so stay aware of where you might be able to get the vaccine at a moment's notice.

Also, Walmart will soon be offering vaccines too.  It won't be long before many more vaccines and locations will be available.  Patience.

One of the frustrating things about this is the extent to which potential local resources are either staying mum about their plans or honestly don't know... All they seem to want to tell people is to check websites often. I'm really sorry that the powers that be, those that want so badly for everyone to be vaccinated, seem to think it's all right that tracking down available resources should become everyone's full time job... Absolutely absurd and this is one example of what some of us mean when we call out for a competent entity to be overseeing this program...

I'll happily take 71% over the current 0% any day.  Hopefully I will be able to get my vaccine by July or August.

Also, J&J vaccine is one shot & done!

The protection level is much lower with the J&J vaccine. Think I saw low 60% compared to the Pfizer 95% and Moderna 94%.

Something to consider.

Last month, N.J. governor got a verbal beat down at one of his televised news conference from several newspaper reporters regarding a lot of folks do NOT have access to the internet, no cell phone(s} nor computer/tablets.  And if they did, they do not know their way around the internet for that matter.  In 24 hours a toll free phone # popped up on the COVID website.

In 48 hours there was info regarding a group of college students who volunteer to assist folks weave arouond the internet to get vaccine appts.

Them "powers that be" have NO clue.....

Re: Cold storage for vaccine

@Porcelain

At 81+ my risk of dying from this virus is 5.6%, without the vaccine. The younger and healthier you mention, mostly fall into the 99.9%, with 2 more digits like:

99.996/99.997% and so on, without the vaccine.

I said some time back that I was willing to take that 5.6% risk of dying from the virus before my turn came up. When it came up I got my 1st vaccine. Did it change my outlook since I got the shot? No, i was never that concerned from the getgo.

I called my doctors office yesterday, to get any information ,on when 65 yr. vaccines will start, yet another way to find out , here in maine,they are doing older age group in maine still ,only place in york,is at a church, she said many people are upset how it is going here in maine, one problem is finding cold stoage site, i got to thinking ,would not grocery stores have this?

@goldensrbest

They are still in the 80 and above age group here last time I checked. My wife's age group is still not getting their vaccinations in the 70's group. She got her shot with me because in our -40° windchill, I knew there would be lots of cancellations. There were, thus she got her under 80 years old shot, for that reason only.

Some hospitals in Maine are giving the Covid 19 vaccine.  I live in Maine and got my first vaccination last week from my local hospital.  The state's website has a list of vaccination sites and contact information for them. You will need to make an appointment.

The church i mentioned in my post, is the only place now ,that is giving the vaccine, it says that on the web site, for york area.

@goldensrbest, it looks like according to the website from your state that there are 2 locations for vaccinations in York county.  One is the MaineHealth Vaccine Clinic and the other is York Hospital.  I will provide the website, it does have the number for York hospital.

https://www.maine.gov/covid19/vaccines/vaccination-sites

I don't know how your state is doing this but you may have to call on a daily basis and check for an available appointment.  Or they may have a website to check and see if appointments are available.

Both Moderna and Pfizer are stepping up production of the vaccine so more vaccine will be coming to states.  Good luck!
