• In an effort to cut back on the use of disposable plastic bags, Walmart has started a “bagless” pilot in Vermont on February 15.

• Walmart stores in the state are asking customers to bring their own reusable bags or containers. The outcome of the pilot will help guide the company’s future bagless efforts.

The efforts to cut out single-use plastic bags fit into the retailer’s larger sustainability goals including reaching zero emissions in its operations by 2040, creating zero waste in key markets by 2025 and reducing greenhouse gas emissions by a gigaton by 2030. By 2030, the retailer has also pledged to protect, manage or restore at least 50 million acres of land and 1 million square miles of ocean.

(Very noble of Walmart, but, of course, they will make oodles of money selling us washable bags and containers.  Hasn't QVC been selling something like this?  Now, we'll see many more in different sizes, prints, fabrics, and colors to coordinate with the interior of our cars.)

Because of COVID our grocery store (Jewel) does not want anyone to bring in their own bags.

Yeah, that's the problem for now.  You can't bring your own bags in stores of which I'm familiar.  However, one store I recently visited allowed me to bring my own bag and do my own bagging.  I had no problem with that.  I can bag better than any store employee bagger and at least I know that you don't put the freaking bread in a bag with the frozen, cold, and wet stuff!   (don't get me started)

I hate that we cannot bring our own bags, for the most part now.  At least my main grocery store has paper bags, so I can recycle them.  But these days I cannot find a place to recycle the massive supply of plastic bags I have.  I never used them, as i was one to bring my own bags before the virus.  But the husband won't go out of his way and I've amassed so many and nowhere to take them.

I don't even know why Waste Management doesn't allow these items in the bin for pick up.  YOu can only put in paper, cardboard, and an assortment of product packaging.

Sounds more like them wanting to increase their profits to me. Saw on the news last night how many rivers now are being deluged with masks and gloves, along with the plastic bags. 

I hear all the talk about zero emissions, but little about nature itself. Got me SMH!

The bags get all twisted up in the recycling machines as do bottle caps.

This is hardly a new concept.  Many cities started doing this some time ago but suspended the practice due to covid.  Walmart here won't even accept their own bags back for recycling.

I don't mind bringing my own bags but it seems to hold up the line and at our Walmart there are usually only 2 lanes open with a cashier...sometimes one of the two check outs (multi stations) are also closed...makes me wonder if they really want customers!

In Italy you have to bring your own bags. Everybody is happy to do that,to decrease the use of plastic.

I only go to Italy 2 months in the summer. So I never remember to bring my bags inside and I buy one in the store.

I like to shop at Aldi. You take the cart to the car and fill the bags you keep in the trunk.

I do the curbside pickup at WM. I'm not sure how 'bagless' will work out there.

Our Walmart lets us bring our own bags as long as we pack our own groceries.  I always use self checkout so I pack my own anyway.  I hate the way the clerks pack. They put 2-3 small items in one bag and I end up with 21 bags to haul home. When I bring and pack my own bags I only have 4.
