CNN  showed live video of copter rescue of a couple of people, a little bulldog and what may have been a spaniel.

So far, the Coast Guard in the Houston area has rescued 6000 people and 1000 pets.

A little good news!

Re: Coast Guard, People & Pets

I love it! I also saw people(either volunteers or pros) going to houses and bringing pets out that were left behind. They did report that owners gave permission to break in-if needed.

So many from boating and air communities are stepping in to help.

I've never seen such an outpouring of humanity Noel7. For every bad news stories, it seems there are 10 heart warming great stories of heroicism, bravery and kindness.....

In our neck of the woods, to fill a Cessna single engine plane is around $400. There are reports of pilots from pretty far away-flying in to take pets to their owners....their time-their wallets...just helping....

Hi @Poodlepet2🙂

Huffington Post has a slideshow of photos of rescues... heart wrenching.  Especially touching are pix of people carrying pets and children.

I know several teams deployed from CA right away and a rescue trained guy and his search dog are there now.  Amazing story of the dog, found in a shelter, he was due for extermination because he is too full of energy.  Someone saw promise in him and got him trained.  His specialty is to sniff out anyone still living.  He's already a hero.

Re: Coast Guard, People & Pets

My cousin had a video yesterday of a LONG line of people with boats and trucks filled with supplies heading into Houston.

What a sight.

I live in Colorado and we are getting some of the dogs and cats being rescued. They are being placed in our Humane Society facility here and will be put up for adoption. Our local news reported that these were not strays but pets.

Re: Coast Guard, People & Pets

We have three known friends/family who are"caught" right now.

One is tugging at my heart. She is so independent and brave. I believe shock has set in. They are safe now in the closest major city but say they are going right back.

Her little kids and adorable DH... he has an infection, got a shot of rocefin. His infection is from contaminated water, where he performed water rescues.

A niece is in Beaumont not thinking straight, IMO. They are staying for now. Oh dear. I don't know what I am doing except fighting the good fight relaying information on social media. Aaaaack

Oh @LTT1

That poor man, and the stress your niece is dealing with, how awful 🙁

I am sure you're worried about them and feeling stress, too. (((( loves ))))

@SilleeMee  One of my all-time favorite dogs came from the Colorado Springs Humane Society.  She was a purebred mini Aussie but they didn't know what she was.  They said she was too shy to be adopted but collie rescue took her anyway, thank goodness.  A little socialization and she wasn't shy at all.

What?!? They are not even allowing some time to pass for the pets' owners to get their bearings and try to reunite them? They're just adopting them out to others???

How awful! I can't even imagine the pain of that......to barely get myself out alive and somehow lose track of my pet and/or unable to get to my pet and then find out, I won't have the opportunity to find it and my pet will be placed with strangers.....surely there's a better way to handle the rescued animals for the time being. Adoption later for those not reunited? Sure. But to do it now seems really cruel.
