@nana59,  I use to smoke (4 years ago) when I ended up in the hospital because I had difficulty breathing after taking a couple steps.  That was enough to finally make me stop and I am so glad i quit.  It was somewhat easier because I was so sick.  I hope you never develop breathing problems.  My Pulmonary dr. said my lungs are clear now but I still have an annual CT scan of my lungs.  I can't imagine what cigarettes cost today.  All my friends have quit smoking too, actually, before me.   Happy Holidays Cat Happy

P.S.   I hate when people blame cigarette smoke for causing illness to others.  My father smoked and my mother was never sick.  She lived to 89.  My brothers never got sick from his smoke nor did other relatives.  It's possible that it can happen but not a definite given.

I won't stop preaching! That'll be the day I help someone eradicate themselves by smoking.

I've seen smoke shops near casinos, so maybe they are cheaper on the reservations.  After seeing the price per pack, I can now understand why I saw a man on a bike outside a service station going through the butts - he pocketed four of them and rode off.  This was in Upper Michigan where it is cold.

I know....I know....I shouldn't smoke, but I do.....just noticed you can buy cigarettes online....anyone have a website I should use?  Please, no scolding.... I feel badly enough about my habit ....thanks...

@nana59

I'm not "scolding", but you need to get the facts right.  It's not a "habit" ....  it's an addiction, like heroin or anything else.   It's not a habit ....  like cracking your knuckles or chewing gum.

My stepmother finally decided to go for a smoking cessation program (there are many) when her sister told her that, statistically, the less educated you are, the more likely you were to be a nicotine addict and smoker.   (I think she really told her that stupid people were often smokers, but I never got the conversation fully explained.  She didn't pull any punches, though)

My stepmother said cost was also finally a deterrent .... at what point would you stop due to cost?  $20 a pack?   $50 a pack?   $100 a pack?

If you want to continue, obviously no one can stop you (short of putting you in jail or in some sort of confinement).  Based on your screen name, I just hope you don't smoke around children.  There is just no excuse for that behavior.  JMO

I sincerely hope you can turn your life around and focus on your health.  Good luck to you.

My husband, who quit smoking 20 years ago, considers it an addiction to the physical act of smoking and the calming effects of nicotine.  He also experiences occasional cravings to this day.

Preaching doesn't make anybody quit. It's more likely to make folks dig in and resist. Quitting has to be a personal choice that comes from within.

Second-hand smoke isn't healthy breathing it in, whether if causes illnesses or not.

The smell of it on clothes, your home , your car and the nasty breath. No thanks.

...or not so much a choice but an act of survival. I nearly died from being addicted to a substance. It took a near death experience for me to quit. It wasn't a choice...it was quit or die.
