They slapped the cigarette tax on the bags of 'cigrette tobacco' a few years back, and the price more than quadrupled. If you buy the same tobacco, labled 'pipe tobacco', it's very inexpensive, doesn't have the extra taxes.
Just roll up the pipe tobacco, that plus the cost of filtered tubes (papers) brings the cost to about $1.00/pack.
They are around $2.00/pack, already made at the reservation.

I know you can buy cigarettes on line, but I don't think it's legal in most cases. I dont even think a friend/relative can legally mail them to someone if they lived in a state where they are much cheaper.

Check your state laws before ordering cigarettes from an online source. It is illegal in some states. And some sources are barred by law. Also, make sure the vendor website indicates that tax stamps will be shown on cigarette packs. Many outfits are shady and will illegally package smokes without tax stamps.
If you’re looking for bargains, take what you save on cigarette purchases by buying them online and save the difference in money towards the caretaking and special equipment you may need if smoking comes to do you harm. Or I hope you can spend money on patches or prescriptions to help quit. It’s not easy, but it’s worth it.
New Years resolution? Good luck.

Use it on private pay insurance policy

The taxes you pay help to cover health care costs associated with smoking.
Maybe if the cost is too high you could think about.....never mind

I had no idea you could buy cigarettes online or
in an uncontrolled environment (reservations).
If you did purchase online, what if they were made with
undesirable/more-harmful-than-tabacco ingredients?
I see posters get upset their twizzers are ‘fake’.
I know you’re taking a risk with smoking, but to extend that risk
even further with illegal manufacturing w/ fake cigarettes?
Anything could be in those things...

I had stopped smoking before the internet. Interesting to read about the stat to state issues, so it sounds like you need to take a lot of care there, as you might end up spending the money and getting nothing for it.
Speaking of how long since I smoked - One day, in the grocery store, there was a customer ahead of me buying a pack of cigarettes. This was at least ten years ago! When the cashier told him how much he owed, and it was $10+ I about keeled over! Man, when I stopped smoking that was what I paid for a whole carton of 100s!
As others have mentioned, you might try a reservation smoke shop. That's where I got mine for the last several years that I smoked and the price, back then anyway, was always lower than other retail outlets such as grocery stores, drug stores, etc.
I don't even know how non-rich people can even afford to smoke anymore!
