it seems that everyone needs something these days.My husband has a deduction from his pay monthly and I donate to breast cancer. We also buy diapers for the food bank. The problem is that a couple of ladies at my gym belong to a club and they are always collecting for something.I don't want to donate to any more causes. My family also needs things. How do I say no without looking like a bad person.

I would tell them that I have my own favorite causes to which I contribute and I can't take on any more at this time.

I just say no thank you and carry on with what I was doing.

Good people say no all the time.  Politely of course.

@Peaches McPhee@I find it hard especially when they are so passionate about it.....I can't help but feel bad. These ladies seem to really believe in their causes.

First, stop worrying about that. Your worry about looking bad is on you, not them. If they are themselves good people, they aren't going to judge you for saying no. And if they do judge you, then I would worry even less about what they think.

Second, just say no. You don't owe them an explanation. If you feel you want to give one anyway, just say that you have already chosen your charities and while the ones they are collecting for did not make your own list, you're very glad that someone is helping them.

Re: Charitable donations

[ Edited ]

we donate a lot to causes we care deeply about. I never donate without checking charity navigator.  I would just say no thanks, I donate often to other causes.  A friend of mine always wants me to give to. Xxx cause  but not enough goes to the actual cause for my preferences.  I just tell her no thanks.

If you can't come right out and say "no", then say, "Maybe next time."  Some people do have a hard time saying no.
