I prefer Target over Walmart any day A trip to Walmart is very stressful for me and I can always count on long lines. Sometimes, when I am in the Walmart line, I think to myself "my ice cream is going to melt while I am in this line". It is ridiculous. I watch the sales at Target, our store is very clean and organized and the employees actually ask if they can help you.

1962 Creation of an Icon

In the months before the first Target store opens its doors, former Dayton's Director of Publicity Stewart K. Widdess, is tasked to name and define the new retail store. Widdess and his staff debate more than 200 possible names. In a burst of red-and-white inspiration, they come up with "Target" and immediately envision a classic Bullseye logo. The reasoning behind the choice was, "As a marksman's goal is to hit the center bulls-eye, the new store would do much the same in terms of retail goods, services, commitment to the community, price, value and overall experience."

Re: Changes in Target?

Just an FYI... Target has a lot that's only available online and that includes + size clothes.

Ours has been additionally carrying new and different beauty brands, I see them in email, some from Europe.  I love their new Soap & Glory line for hand cream and body buttercream.  I mentioned the other day that the "Hand Food" is a large tube for only $6.99 and it's the best I've found for my hands.

Did my Sunday morning Target run (love it because the place is empty).  I've read Target is going to be making some changes to their store.  So far, at my store, they removed the jewelry counter and replaced that area with more women's clothing.  (Frankly, I think they have way too many clothes crammed together - you can't even get your cart through fashion).  The only other change I've noticed is that they put maternity in with the sleepwear.  Have you noticed any changes at your store?

I have not been lately but when I do go it is always a pleasant experience.  The sales people are so friendly and they know where the items are located and will take you to them if you need it.  I also love Barnes and Noble because their customer service is awesome.Smiley Happy

I rarely go to Target unless it's to check their Christmas wrappings, they've had some pretty traditional things but I won't buy the modern looks.

I also like their kitchen tools.

I love their all occasion cards, but they're extremely expensive.

Walmart is much, much less expensive for toiletries.

Thanks, @Noel7, I didn't realize that about the clothes. I rarely ever go to Target's website. I always tried their clothes on though, because they always tend to the made-in-Asia undersizing, i.e. skimpy fit. I will take a look.

I much prefer shopping/browsing in Target to Walmart, even though I'll buy an occasional pair of jeans or shorts or a sweatshirt at Walmart.

I'm pretty sure no one lost money because of the Target hack.  They immediately promised to cover any loss.

I order often and use their Red Card, everything ordered immediately gets a 5% discount on the purchase and free shipping.

Your Target sounds like an anomaly. I've been to a lot of Targets and none were a mess or low on stock.  We have 4 nearby with a 5th opening soon.

My Target may be an anomaly, but there are plenty of other places to shop, so I know I'm not missing anything. Their online store, as I said, is different. They're carrying items there at better prices then I've found elsewhere, and they have a low miminum order, no membership or special cards required. Makes me sorry I ever tried the ugly store.

There's something else. I hate all that red, and I don't like the target symbol. None of it works for me. I think I'd have to be in a young, hip demographic, or identify that way, to find Target's image appealing.

Our local Target had a wonderful book department that has now vanished.

I refuse to use self checkout at Target or anywhere else for the very reason they're eliminating jobs ...  I don't care if I stand there a few extra minutes.  I went to that store to SHOP, not prequalify as my own cashier/bagger for the store. If they want to add a discount for self checkout I might rethink it, but until that happens I'm In the regular checkout line.  At my target they usually have three or four cashiers open and maybe ten empty cashier lines unattended.
