This might be a little far fetched, but I think the written rules found in the Community Guidelines should be given a point system that, when violated, will be held against the offending poster, much like you see with driver's license point violations. This will, of course, involve expulsion and probation periods of time away from this forum. Each rule should carry a set number of points...the more serious the violation, the more points are applied to it. Multiple offenders should suffer permanent expulsion. Just sayin'. Might be easier said than done.Woman LOL

There are people who aren't on the boards 24/7 so they honestly don't know a thread about the subject was already started.

That has happened to me before.  I didn't purposely start the thread knowing it had already been deleted.  I honestly didn't know.

@Lipstickdiva

I agree, it has happened to me too. Totally unaware that a subject had already been a problem, I post something similar.

And I've seen people chastised by other posters when they start a thread about the same subject that another poster has started ( not a banned or removed post, but one running currently). Often they are posted close together. Not everyone searches a topic before they post.

I think most people here know what the standards are.

Some people don't believe the rules apply to them.  Then there is the issue of the mods not applying the standards consistently, which is another issue entirely.

Since we have no way of knowing how many reports a thread or post receives I choose to think that unless:

the topic is blatantly against the rules

posts are blatantly against the rules

two or more posters have essentially hijacked the thread going back and forth arguing instead of discussing

one or more poster latches onto a particular thought using it to keep a thread off topic

the mods are responding to reports rather than arbitrarily (inconsistently) poofing.

@MarpYour first statement is the illogical reason we see posters declaring that so-and-so had my post deleted.  We have absolutely no way of knowing  if a post was reported; and even if reported it cannot be determined who did it just because of personal issues that have nothing to do with the topic.

Accusations like that just fuel more immature finger-pointing.

The mods are human with their own view as to what might be deemed inappropriate as far as personal arguing; insults notwithstanding, one cannot ever determine that another poster prompted a mod to have a post/thread removed.

No deleted post/thread is going to cause an earth-shattering after-effect.

There are a number of posters on here that spend an inordinate amount of time hitting the report button against people they don't agree with or care for. Some have even admitted they are heavy handed in doing so.

I just read the standards again and they are not specific enough, I think that's why the posters and especially the mods cannot be objective.

They know the rules, and choose to break them anyway.

And the rules are there for anybody to read at any time.

Just click on "Standards".

@Plaid Pants2 Yuban....you mean, do as I say and not as I do?

Great idea! Call it "Purge day" like the movie, with no rules! Actually, I don't think anyone moderated on Christmas. They had a lot to delete the day after.
