Picked up a scratch off lottery ticket that had been thrown down in the parking lot of a convenience store - it was worth $60,000.

To this day I still pick up discarded lottery tickets in parking lots. I may never be that lucky again, but I'm helping reduce the littering problem, LOL!

One of the biggest raffle prizes:   At a Christmas raffle, won a huge wicker basket filled with all types of bake ware, toppings, ingredients, cookie cutters, cookbook, etc.

The joke: I no longer bake and rarely " cook " so I gave it to the large family who were recipients of the proceeds from the event.  They loved it....and so did I !!!

In the late 1980's, I was the grand prize winner in a cooking contest run by a large newspaper company.  The prize money was a $1,000 and a guest appearance on national tv.  The show host was Matt Lauer.

The only other thing I won was a free Thanksgiving Dinner for 6 people at a local restaurant.  You had to be a certain number caller on a local radio show for the win.  The free Thanksgiving dinner came in handy as I was on crutches from a knee surgery and couldn't cook anyway!

When I was in 5th grade I put my Mother's name and phone number in a drawing at a local supermarket in a big drum for a Chest Freezer.  When they called  her she was going to tell them they were mistaken and I interrupted, telling her I put her name in the drawing. My Parents told me that they would sell the freezer as didnt need it  at the time and I could have the money later for contact lenses when I got in High School. Value was about $150 in 1963.

@KingstonsMom

Wow!  I always pick up lottery tickets I see laying on the ground and where I buy my tickets there is a "loser" box filled with tickets.

Some of the scratch off have 2nd chance drawings which I guess people don't realize so I always take them...

so far...no winner🤷‍♀️

We  used to have Jai-Alai frontons in CT.  My favorite number to play was 286.

One Saturday evening, after I had placed my bet, I noticed the ticket puncher made a mistake and gave me the number 287.  Since it was crowded, I decided to just keep the ticket instead of waiting in a long line for a correction.  Well, 287 came out and paid almost $10 thousand.  It was a long shot!  Very exciting.

On a cruise, I won, $2,830.00 on the last day bingo day. It was with an auto play bingo machine.  I knew I was going to win as I have periodic premonitions!  I was paid in cash right after the game and as we were in international waters then, not was required to report my win to the IRA. That is no longer valid on cruise winnings now.
