Resent doing my civic duty? The census has been around since Revolutionary days.
No, I don't resent it at all - I look forward to the information they will receive about our country!

Anyway, I don't think that the Census is being mailed out until 2020........?? Is this correct? Anything else this year would be a scam of some sort, if this is true.
Is it your towns census?
Irishgrl it is me who started this thread and no its not a town census....the envelope reads
Director..US CENSUS BUREAU THEN THE PO BOX AND THEN JEFFERSONVILLE IN.....
postage will be paid by the census bureau....
a few weeks ago I received...by mail...that I could do this online and if I didn't they would be sending me the long form by mail...and that's exactly what they did...it arrived yesterday or the day before....I have been angry ever since...
Why the anger?

The census form is beyond intrusive, IMO. I filled out my form with just the number of people in the house and sent it back. The Census then sent a woman to the door to pester me. I spoke to her through the door and told her I sent in the form. She would not leave and kept asking me questions, so I finally yelled, "Get off of my porch!" She left and never came back. Some time later, one of my neighbors mentioned that she was afraid of me because I yelled at her when she wouldn't leave when I told her I returned my form. Good.
For the census before that, I didn't participate at all. The worker kept coming to my door for it seemed like months. As a result, I would keep the shade down on the window by the front porch. Once I was eating right near the window when she came and just sat there and ignored her as she rang the bell and hung around.
If they want cooperation, they must scale back all the intrusive questions they ask. It is none of their business.

A few years ago the government hired, 'census takers' to go door to door. I remember because my BIL did it. I wonder if they are just relying on the mailers now.
I think it's intrusive-there's other ways to get this information. The IRS would know how much income you have, where you work and how many people live there, Real Estate records knows how big your house is and how many bathrooms you have. The school district knows how many kids you have and their ages. Internet providers know who has access to the internet. Utility companies know how much water/electricity you use. Public transportation knows how many people ride the bus, and the road dept. knows how many cars are on the road.
Why don't they hire some people to correlate all of that already available information, instead of doing a census.

"Census takers" are not a new development.
They have been around since the beginning of our country.
Why the uproar now????

Objections to the length and intrusiveness of the census form are nothing new, terrier.

Number of people that live in the home and ages should be all that's required. I will not answer more than that.

Perhaps you can tell us why you are implying some conspiracy among those who don't want to fill out the entire census (and never have, so there goes your theory about objections being new). Why are you paranoid (and not civil in debate), terrier?

Yep. That's all the Census is supposed to be for.
