Hi Shorty2U, Saw your post. Regarding tracing your roots in Italy, we had to pay extra on the Ancestry site to be able to access European sites. Look for it on the site. In addition, not every Province in Italy has had there records put on the data base. I know for a fact as my family is from Calabria and my husband is from Palermo Sicily. We did very well with his records but in my case not all the records from all the provinces in Calabria have been done. I think this work is being done by the Mormon Church of Latter Day Saints. Hope this has been helpful. If you have any we questions 'reach me thru this site.

They should all be short forms. Why target certain folks with long forms? All short forms is much less discriminatory. More equal. p.s. I helped a senior neighbor around the corner fill out her long, long form (years ago). My gosh............they wanted to know just about everything. Her electric/gas bills expenses per month, etc. I'm thinking that if they want to help all seniors and others, they should just advertise it on TV and have them apply for assistance.

'More or less', 'Right or wrong', 'In general', and 'Just thinking out loud ' (as usual).

I will ask this....does EVERYONE have to fill these out....do they go after anyone who does not.....and you know there will be many who won't....I just feel like its a scare tactic for those of us who have filled them out before...and those who don't....nothing will come of it...

I understand what all of you are saying and I wish I felt better about this but I have so much anger in me right now...and I can't seem to shake free of it...even though I did fill it out and I will mail it Monday....

I do appreciate all the info you all have provided....

If you're that ticked off don't send it.

no, can't do that....don't want to be arrested...I am too old to sit in the clink....(73)....lol

They will send out two mailings, if those aren't answered they will call you. They will then send a representative to your house if those aren't answered. My friends mom did this one year and she went to all the people who didn't answer by mail or phone.

I think it is important to do and nothing to get aggravated about and these are some of the reasons we do a census

Census information affects the numbers of seats your state occupies in the U.S. House of Representatives. And people from many walks of life use census data to advocate for causes, rescue disaster victims, prevent diseases, research markets, locate pools of skilled workers and more.

When you do the math, it's easy to see what an accurate count of residents can do for your community. Better infrastructure. More services. A brighter tomorrow for everyone. In fact, the information the census collects helps to determine how more than $400 billion dollars of federal funding each year is spent on infrastructure and services like:

  • Hospitals
  • Job training centers
  • Schools
  • Senior centers
  • Bridges, tunnels and other-public works projects
  • Emergency services

I wish I could believe all that really happens....

I know what you mean....I have filled out more forms in my 73 years...so my laundry has been aired, too....I don't know why this particular form sticks in my craw but it does...

every time there is a census...I get one...EVERY TIME....maybe that's why it aggravates me...and you are right....they are intrusive questions...

The long one? Nope, not getting filled out. they threaten fines and jail time for this one, but my response to that isn't allowed on here.

not sure...there was a lot of questions...the booklet was pretty darn thick.....I did get one last time...and the time before that....etc etc....

that's what my form wanted to know....how much money comes into the house...what I get for s.s......what is my rent...am I on any assistance....how much is my gas and electric bill...how many rooms in my place...I was expecting them to ask what their size was and then I would have to get out my tape measure....ridiculous!!!!

God help me if I owned my own home I would have to give the lot size, too....I guess I would have to get a surveyor out here....lol....

what business it of them how much my utilities are...will they be picking up the tab...asking way too many questions that are none of their business...

oh, I forgot...they wanted to know if I had a phone and if it was from a cable company or whatever...also did I use a laptop....tablet...etc...and does it get internet and how did I get that service....what a bunch of K R A P.....

I'm honored to do so. We found out more about our ancestors through these records. One of my great-great grandfathers served in the Civil War. What's so special about that, you ask? Well, he was a freed (or runaway) slave. His wife applied for and received widow's benefits from the Union Army upon his death.

Running my fingers over a copy of these records brought tears to my eyes.

SoX, that is so cool.
