@hennypenny  I do. I want to run out into the street and get vaporised. There is no way I want to live, after an event like that happens

Re: Complete: Cell Phone Emergency Alert

I received the alert at 2:18. My 9 year old was at school and his phone was off  but when he turned it on there was no alert. He said his friends at school who had their phones on all got the alerts. We both have Verizon. I have the Galaxy S8 and he has the Galaxy S6.

@cherryFunny you say that.  My thinking is the lucky people die on impact.  I've read and seen (TV) some of those "day after" scenarios and no thanks!

Re: Complete: Cell Phone Emergency Alert

I'd forgotten the alert was coming and when I was in a store and it came in I thought I'd set something off.  Then I looked at it and realized what it was and was able to explain it to another woman in the store.

I'm glad for this alert system.  I'm not always near a TV or radio.

You don't have to turn off your phone.  Just turn off your alert capability in your phone settings.

DH and I did not get the phone alert because those settings are off.  It did come on the TV.

This was being sent through at a Presidential Alert.

You cannot turn those off - only weather and amber alerts can be disabled.

On my LG there is even a system statement on the Emergency Alerts settings page that reads "Prediential alerts

Presidential alerts are always presented."

They cannot be turned off.

@Marp  But that is YOUR phone, not mine.  Honestly I really don't care who received this alert.  I didn't as well as others on this thread.

If this alert can override even if my alert notification is shut off, so be it.  I cannot prove nor disprove why my alert never came through for me or for DH, whose phone is another brand.

People are right for their situation; people are not wrong because their phones functioned differently and the alert never went through regardless of settings.

Ok now??

Re: Complete: Cell Phone Emergency Alert

My phone isn't cellular as I simply refuse to be tied to a phone wherever I go. My Ipad is also, not activated as cellular, though it could be. I paid for both wifi and cellular on the IPad. Not everyone in this country HAS the equipment required, many of whom simply can't afford it. If it doesn't meet the needs of the full population, then why bother? I also don't like the idea of carrying something that has the possibility of tracking all citizens. It smacks of Big Brother.

I’ve turned our cellphones back on now and no text messages came through.  The PNW is having problems apparently.

I don't think it was on TV either. As I said, though, I don't want my phone to be messed with by the government. For how many decades have we done just fine with national alerts and didn't have cell phones?
