@Sooner wrote:Maybe time to arm mail carriers with at least tasers and stop some of this nonsense.
And how will arming mail carriers solve check washing?
Exactly. What a silly suggestion.

@depglass wrote:It is downright pathetic that we can't trust postal employees to guard outside boxes. Of course, if this was done by an employee, they could have snagged the envelope inside the building also. Just make sure your envelope doesn't get stuck at the opening, especially at Christmas when there might be cards filling the box.
Seriously? The post office cannot post guards at all outside mailboxes. How could you even think this is even remotely, logically, logistically, or practically possible? And then you vilify the post office employees themselves. You're reaching. And not in a good way.

I recently had a check stolen from y mailbox probably that was a check for my monthly credit card. They whitewashed everything and made it out for $l700.00. Of course my bank immediately credited it.
Now, I don't ever put a check in my mailbox at night and wait until I see the postal lady before placing in my mailbox.
Hard to catch them.... Beware!

@Roni18 wrote:@JoyFilled Warrior I haven't looked in awhile because I bought a box of pens at Sam's but you used to be able to find them in sets of 2 at Walmart and Target. They were just with all the other pens.

Hi @Roni18
Oh! Thank you! I'll look for them there!
Good idea!

Wouldn't a fine point permanent marker do the trick?

Hi @Tinkrbl44 ![]()
Good suggestion. Thanks!
I think until I get to Walmart to get a 2pk of these Special Pens (introduced earlier on this thread), like @Roni18 suggested above, I'll use a Perm Marker, like you suggested, *and* also mail the envelope inside the Post Ofc.
I really dont need the time consuming hassle of correcting a "Check Washed" check, or check never received, so I'll take all the precautions I can.
Plus, as mentioned here also, someone dumped a drink in the outside Blue Postal Boxes, which I've only used twice, thank goodness!. YUCK!
I used to put the clear packing tape over the address on the envelope, so it didnt wash off in the mail, as sometimes happens. I wonder if the clear packing tape is allowed on a Check, in the amount sections also. (Yeah, Crazy imagining that tho, I spoze).

I pay 99% of bills online. It's faster and easier. I'm not paying for stamps, new checks, envelopes, etc.

Be careful what you tape over. Everything is sorted by machine now and often the machines can't read what has been taped. And I believe tape on a check is not allowed since they are scanned also and may not be read properly if taped.
My post office said not to use tape over a mailing label because the scanners can't read the bar codes that way. Don't tape over a stamp either.

"Shiny" clear tape can interfere with machines reading the addresses and tracking codes. It was my understanding that the Scotch invisible tape is okay, since it doesn't reflect light, but if it's important, skip any tape there.
I occasionally sell on Ebay and always tape around the tracking with the invisible tape, just to be cautious.
