Re: Cash Wedding Gift - How much?

A great aunt sent me $500. All others $100 - $200. Notice I said me and not us but I put it to good use. Smile My husband certainly never missed it, heck he didn't even know about it and was too busy to care. I did tell him though when he asked me what I was doing when taking care of the thank you notes. {#emotions_dlg.laugh} And we eloped.

I got married in 1990 and I got $25.00 - $50.00 from many couples. If someone gave $75.00 as a couple that was a LOT.

It really depends on where you live. In my area, $50.00 is pretty normal for one person and $100.00 for 2 people.

Hey Ms Diva, you cannot even imagine what was given in 1971.

It definitely depends on where you live. Not just different parts of the country, but it can differ a lot even within a state - metropolitan areas vs. rural.

Re: Cash Wedding Gift - How much?

So, a question....if your best friend's daughter were getting married, how much would you spend on a gift? The daughter of my best friend is getting married this summer. I had her invitation "done" with dried flowers in glass. It's so gorgeous. I'm going to give some cash also, but haven't determined the amount yet.

Why is it, when I have a 50/50 guess at something, I'm always 100% wrong?

When my daughters best friend got married, we gave her as much as what we would give to a niece.

I'll agree with that-- downstate NY is much more expensive with cost of living vs. cost of living upstate. So give what you can afford.

I gave My nephew and his wife $300 in a card in September at the wedding. I have yet to receive a thank you or even a verbal acknowledgement.

Sometimes the photographer is delayed with the photos for the thank you cards so this might be the reason for no written response yet.

That's rough because when they have kids you'll want to give, but it will sting a bit.

Usually $100 or more. In fact we have two upcoming weddings...better get the checkbook ready.
