@Bibione Having gotten laid off once and knowing many who have, it's always a surprise, no one ever sees it coming. It's always sudden, rarely any advance warning.
One reason is to prevent an employee from sabotaging the company in any way, shape or form or from saying something negative on the air.

No more shopping for me. Stores are starting to open again. They fired Carolyn? I saw QVC 2 the other night. The people from the companies were running the show. 1 person from Sun Joe for example would sell his product then introduce the next seller. No hosts. I thought how cheesy that was. It was like any of the other low budget shopping channels being loaded onto my tv. I 've noticed Jane running around like a chicken with her head cut off, talking over the product guests. Franitc. This is why. If you look online you will see that QVC's stock shares went up after this announcement. Nice. I've also noticed the bad camera work. This is due to automated cameras. No more cameramen. $$$

Both Carolyn and Dan-layoffs!

Carolyn was one of my favorites, great voice, and she was always very informative about the products........
I cant believe they got rid of her instead of many other unwatchable and annoying hosts.....And please dont tell me it was about sales, because QVC has stated sales only impact host bonuses and salary raises.......And for the 4th quarter and 2022 overall revenues and Sales decreased 11%........How can QVC justify layoffs when they have 2 and more and more 3 hosts in one show....

@stevieb wrote:This was handled badly but then that's vintage QVC, which leads me to suggest that if they truly want to streamline, reinvent, and cut costs, they should start with the corporate offices. Not one blessed thing has improved despite all the alleged new blood, corporate shakeups and mergers. Not one thing. I'd add that shooting for the young, slim and glam demographic is a waste of time. This company will never attract them in the numbers they need to make it worthwhile.
Youre absolutely right!!! QVC's "gimmicks" arent working, they can do all the streaming shows they want but thats not going to bring in the younger demographic, just like the Q Brass thinks all this "entertainment" style shows will keep viewers watching and buying.....A new financial report just came out and once again, revenues/sales decreased by 11% for the 4th Quarter and 2022 for the entire year.....they are still blaming "the supply chain" and citing other lame excuses that just arent flying..........Why dont they cater to their niche audience 40 and up, try 1 host per show, unique products at reasonable prices, and professional, knowledgeable, calm, pleasant hosts......🤔

QVC got rid of a popular host a couple of years ago and I notice it's still in business.
Read their financial reports they arent doing that well, laid off people before and doing it again and their declines in sales and revenues are in double digits have been for the past few years way before any pandemics...

@Biftu wrote:The Age Discrimination Act of 1967 was enacted to protect discrimination based on age, etc. Believe me this law is broken all the time. As an HR Director I saw this happen all the time. When a company want to get rid of someone they do it. It starts months before by building a case against the worker by all of a sudden giving poor reviews, assigning tasks they know are beyond the employee's capabilities, cutting hours, and the list goes on. Even a generous severance package doesn't make up for what they would make if their position continued. Surely they offer these packages,in some cases, to guard against being sued. Fighting these cases are hard to win and very expensive if an employee decides to sue. Companies have funds and insurance to fight these cases.
Thanks for explaining that. Too many people just don't believe companies can be that rotten. They are!
They do what you describe and much more to get rid of employees.

@Spurt The smell of desperation in Stuido Park has been growing consistently for at least the last couple of decades. There were a few upward bumps along the way, most recently with the pandemic, but that smell has now become a flat out stink. Nothing they've tried has made a difference. This multi-host nonsense is ridiculous. I turned past whatever they now call PM Style the other day and the stage was so crowded it seemed pretty clear Treacy, who'd just bobbed in, was directed to move off set, as she left quickly and, for once, without opening her trap. Also think back to all the acquisitions they've made over the years that they've either ruined or otherwise have driven into the ground to the point of disappearing. They've always had lame reasons for their rotten numbers. Remember when Easter came late, Easter came early, the weather was bad, the weather was good and nobody was watching, and on and on. And they'll be citing that warehouse fire until they close their doors. Anything but what it is: rotten management. In fairness, today's economic climate stinks, but even in the best of times they manage only to attain mediocrity at best.
