I always look in the trash cans.Once after unloading groceries I couldn't find my keys, I looked and looked and finally found them inside a plastic grocery bag that I had thrown out.

I put them in the same place every time I set them down. Otherwise, I'd be hunting for them too.

My car keys and house keys are separate.  One time I dropped my car keys when returning to the car after getting groceries.  I looked all over the ground and didn't find them.

Luckily I had another car key in my purse, so I went on my way, praying to St. Anthony.   When I got home, I got a flashlight and looked under the drivers seat.  There they were!  Thank you St. Anthony!!

Now when I leave the car when I get home, I hook them over my little finger.  I hope you find them soon.  That is such a worry!

If you put them in your jacket pocket, could there be a hole or tear in it which the keys could slip through.  Maybe the keys are between the lining and jacket fabric. Just a thought.

@coffee drinker   Good point - that happened to my husband one time.

I drive a Toyota Crown and to replace a fob is $500!   Knowing this,  I bought  very small leather case for my fob and put it in my purse. It never leaves my purse except at the car dealer and very infrequently for valet parking. In addition I have an i.d. tag in chrome that says " if found call phn xxx xxx xxxx" attached to car keys, house key and the collars of each of my two dogs. In the past I got my p.o. box key returned due to this tag.

I have two key fobs. One I keep in my purse and the other one sits on my nightstand next to my bed. I put it there so I can use the alarm button on it in case I hear something strange around my house and it will set the horn off. Never had to do that but it's something a friend suggested.

I'm less likely to be kidnapped than have my purse stolen, so I never put my car or home key in my purse. I keep them in my pocket when I'm out and about.
