That was my feeling too @NickNack.  But, my niece has them and when she had a accident she was very pleased.  This is a hard decision.  It's not just price but I want good customer service tto.

I've done Google searches for reviews of car insurance companies in PA, sometimes Geico comes out at the top and other times they come out at the bottom.

@Winkk  I prefer going with a private insurance agency who can check lots of different companies and give you a choice based on price and what the policy covers.

i agree with using an insurance broker. that is how we ended up switching to ERIE insurance from NATIONWIDE.

@sunshine45@, @Nicknack, I decided that's what I'm going to do, use a broker.  They can compare different policies for me.

@Winkk  I think that's a really good decision.

I've had Geico car insurance for many, many years & zero problems. Have had body work and glass repair & was able to go anywhere I chose to. Have never been told Geico only covers used parts. Calll them & ask.

i've had allstate for 29 yrs.... only 1 accident in all those yrs. and it was the other persons fault... my insurance goes up at least every 2 yrs.. it just went up 60.00 for the year... i was mad. i spoke with my agent, and he went through my whole policy with me.. he did lower it for me.. he was very inderstanding... but since then it went up two times... when i do get a brand new car i will never be able to afford insurance with them thats for sure!!! im paying 1,200.00 a yr and thats for a 13 yr old car!!!! like i said not happy, but been with them for so long.. i heard any other insurance company after your 1st accident can seriously increase your rates since your a brand new member

@Winkk - Get a quote from Amex through Costco.  We switched years ago.  Good service and the best rate we found.  We've had 2 accidents that were not our fault.  No appraiser to come out and inspect before claim is handled.  We go to anyone we want for estimates, repair and everything was handled quickly.  In 2000 I had an accident with a drunk woman being chased by the police. She lost control of her car, hit the curb, her car flipped and hit the hood of car and totaled it.  Luckily, my sunroof was closed and I wasn't hurt too bad.  She had a suspended license from a prior DUI and had no insurance.  Amex cut me a check and they couldn't go after her as she had no insurance.  She went to jail for a year.  The rate on my new car was still the cheapest we found. Just a suggestion.

  My insurance rates have been pretty stable over the years. We’ve made several claims as my son has had a couple of accidents.They were not his fault & our premium was not increased.

   As far as repairing the damage.We took the car to a body shop of our choosing.The insurance adjuster reached an “agreed price” with the shop & the repairs were made.The parts used were new parts not used or off market.Each time insurance paid for a rental until the car was repaired.

@WORKING GAL I get my insurance through Costco too but it's through Ameriprise (great, consistent rates) and not American Express.  Are they an option as my CC is through them?

That's good to know @bonappetit.  Aftermarket parts aren't used parts but parts made by other independent manufacturers not associated with the car manufacturer.

@bonnie f
I too was a loyal Allstate customer for over 20 years.  My rates kept going up also and when I called the agent he really couldn't find a way to lower them.  So I said good bye to Allstate.  I shop around every couple of years because loyalty to one company is long gone.
