I remember when I was in high school late 60's. We were told then we had five years left....

Since then I don't get too worked up about these grim predictions.

I came across a news story from 1979 during the Iranian oil embargo that said scientists believed there was 5 years of world oil production remaining.

It always amazes me that some folks are willing to believe any conspiracy theory that comes down the pike ( the prez is foreign born, the Malaysia airplane is in pakistan, the ACA has death panels) but scientific studies and evidence of climate change we can see and experience is somehow a load of hooey.

I'll never understand it.

People are just too d@mn lazy to do their part. It's easier to just toss and forget rather than actually do something constructive. They'll be the first to p and moan when their water runs out. Or our arable land is nothing but wasteland.

It's a throw-away society and a big part of the problem. Coral reefs are disappearing faster than the rain forests (although there has been improvements to contain the forests).

Sorry wouldn't watch Bill for information of any sorts. Not said with disrespect towards the O/P but definitely towards Bill.

Xnay on Maher, but perhaps the Captain will appear on another show?

He'll repeat the same information on another show, so will that make it valid?

I don't care for Bill Maher but liking him or not liking him does not make the information incorrect.

Since the Industrial age, man has systematically been poisoning the earth, land sea, and air.

Since the Malaysian Plane incident and ultimate searches, we have seen all of the garbage in the Indian Ocean alone.

He also mentioned all the plastic in the ocean!!!! It last hundreds of years. Breaks down to small particles that end up in the fish we eat.

There is a flotilla of trash, much of it plastic, in the Pacific the size of Texas. People have been warning us about the damage to our planet for years but nobody wants to listen. The lives of the polar bears are seriously threatened too.

No where did I claim what he had to say was not valid, I simply refuse to watch Maher, no big deal.

i saw the interview with Captain Watson last night. I'd like to get ahold of his book. He validates what others have alluded to regarding our dying oceans. I didn't realize that when the population of jelly fish increases by leaps and bounds, it is a direct sign that the ocean's other inhabitants are dying. I enjoy hearing from the guests Bill has on his show whether I agree with them or not. But the one on one interviews are the absolute best.

Past time to get ourselves in gear and clean up our act and the oceans. After the oceans die we die, plankton is responsible for much of our oxygen. Sad state of affairs, this is a world wide emergency and people get stuck on Maher's personality. He didn't create the study, he brought it and Capt. Watson to the attention of his listeners.

Amazing isn't it? Head in the sand syndrome. Ignore the message because one doesn't like the way the information is delivered.{#emotions_dlg.sad}

Anyone with young children or grandchildren should be concerned with what kind of world awaits them...or doesn't await them.

I agree with both of you.

That people take as gospel a few paid-off oil industry "scientists" who have sold their souls to those who are responsible for destroying our planet is baffling.
