My mom had a call, caller id said the name of a man I know, I was good friends with his late wife, and I worked for his mother years ago. Mom thought he was looking for me. It was a robo call, about insurance. Now, how did this happen?

A few days ago, I got 5 calls from a new jersey number. I don't know anyone there. On the fifth call, I answered it. I could hear someone speaking in English in the background, and laughing, but couldn't undertand what he was saying. Then someone else it sounded like, started YELLING at me in a foreign language! I looked up the name and number on been verified, it said the number belonged to an 80 something year old man in New Jersey.

We are on the no call list, and I don't think its working. Now, I remember quite clearly why we had gotten rid of our land line to begin with.

@Kachina624    I got spooked by one of those!  I was too scared to answer it(!)    And, every once in a while the "intercom ringer" goes off.............I haven't figured that one out, yet.   Kitty is definitely not that dexterous.........

Two places I look to see if the number is a spam # -- 800notes and White  Pages using their reverse phone number option. 

800notes has people write in as to what the caller ID says or what the call is about. They do block the word NoMoRobo on their site so if you use that service, you have to get creative and say the Robo Guy or Mr. Robo has blocked the call.

White Pages allows you to check the number and it grades by color low, medium (orange) and high (red) the number of complaints and/or call amounts detected by their system.

Many phone service providers will allow you to block 100 calls now as well.
