Lately I've seen some calls come in from Canada and Guam.  Maybe they are spoofed numbers.  Anyone else seeing numbers on your caller id from other countries?  I wonder what the scam is.

I Google all the odd numbers from my caller ID, and often get information as to the type of scam it is.

I haven't been getting any country info, but getting some really weird stuff and some super long numbers (like, way longer than any phone number on this planet!).

Nomorobo must be catching those, however, as I haven't been hearing a ring, and I'm home 99% of the time.    Thank goodness for that!  Smiley Happy    Keeps me out of the 'anger mode' to not have to even know they are trying to get through.

I get a chuckle when I see my own name & phone # pop up on my caller id.  I sure wish my doppelganger would leave a message.  I wanna hear if they also sound like me. :smileylol:

The spoofing is getting more clever, and obnoxious. I had a call yesterday from a local number, and because it could have been important, I answered. There was a delay, and a fellow with a heavy accent asked something, I asked if I knew him, and then he launched into a rapid spiel that seemed to be about donating to a fund for children.

I said goodbye, hung up, and looked up the number. It was the fax machine of a psychotherapist in town. Pretty unlikely that this came from her, so it made sense that the guy or his firm had simply spoofed my area code and prefix for the ID, increasing the chances I'd answer. Next time, I won't.

I had my dog's name pop up on my caller id one day when I was out shopping. I didn't answer but it freaked me out and left me with so many questions.

Where did she get a phone and who was paying her phone bill?

How did she dial with her paw?

What did she want...to remind me to buy her a treat, or to hurry home so we could go to the park? Both?

I got home and it turned out it wasn't her at all. At least that was her story.

And no, no calls from exotic places. Most seem to be from the same state as me -  which happens to be CA and not crazy as you might be thinking! Smiley Happy

I have no idea where some calls originate, and have no interest in finding out. Get some calls, but delete them all from my ID memory. Some with our local area code, I call back, and always get "no such number" or something similar.

I am a Comcast subscriber .... thanks to NOMOROBO, I get zero spam now~!

It's easy to set up (most major phone carriers), and now I can eat dinner in peace without all of those annoying robo and scam calls~!   (Does not block school's robos or prescription notification).

I've had NOMOROBO for years and have redone it from time to time.  I still get lots of scam phone calls.  I have Call Blocking on my phone and use that.  Lately I've been getting scam calls from local numbers.  If I'm expecting a call from a doctor's office or something I will answer it.  Otherwise I Google the number and usually find out it's a scam.
