Thankful for ID. Too much time and effort wasted on spam calls.
Interesting experience recently from univ alum association seeking annual appeal. The call went to daughter cell instead of our home phone. Foreign accent asking for DH. He was given home number and he pursued with us. I investigated legitimacy since our home has always been called. Officials reported it was official and since someone reported phone out of service the univ got into some data base that gave bill payers name. Talk about ruthless tactics. Not happy alum at this end.

@RedTop I googled the one from Canada and got a moving company.  The other one I erased.  I google most of the local numbers that I don't recognize and when I find info on them, it's almost always confirmed as some scam.

The "can you hear me" scam is going around right now.

I had my dog's name pop up on my caller id one day when I was out shopping. I didn't answer but it freaked me out and left me with so many questions.

Where did she get a phone and who was paying her phone bill?

How did she dial with her paw?

What did she want...to remind me to buy her a treat, or to hurry home so we could go to the park? Both?

I got home and it turned out it wasn't her at all. At least that was her story.

And no, no calls from exotic places. Most seem to be from the same state as me -  which happens to be CA and not crazy as you might be thinking! Smiley Happy

OMG, no way!  That is just crazy!

Of course the description of my reaction was just for fun, but yes, my dog's name actually did pop up on my caller id. She has a human name...meaning it's not something like Fido or Spot, so maybe it was a coincidence, but I didn't get that feeling. I felt more like it was information that came from some online form or something. It's not an uncommon name, but not as common as most, so it really did freak me out!

I just recently discovered that our phone company offers Selective Call Acceptance, I plug in the numbers of only the calls I want to receive, and the rest of the calls I hear a small ring and those callers are sent a message that we are unavailable, pretty slick!

We have an unlisted home phone number and use a cell phone when we order from the internet, or doctor appointments etc etc so our home number is not out there,  and I am amazed how many times people try to call our home phone?

One day just to see who the calls were coming from I turned the service off, and they were all scam calls, how they get an unlisted number is beyond me?

Nomorobo is not available in my area, I rely on my Call Blocker by Digitone.

Yeah, that is the unfortunate reality.  Nomorobo is just not available for all carriers.   BUT, I'd keep checking.

When I moved from ATT Uverse (that did have nomorobo) to Charter for everything, Nomorobo was not compatible with Charter at all.   It was still worth getting rid of ATT, but I digress.

One day I was on hold, having called Charter for some customer service thing, and you know how they have all this prattle while you're on hold.  Well, one of the things I heard was that Charter (now called Spectrum, btw) was compatible with nomorobo now.   It was the first time I was happy to have had to listen to all that junk while on hold!  While I was still on hold I got the website and got myself hooked up with nomorobo again.   yay!  Smiley Happy  It is the best!

I get a chuckle when I see my own name & phone # pop up on my caller id.  I sure wish my doppelganger would leave a message.  I wanna hear if they also sound like me. :smileylol:

That happened to me for the very first time last week. I have to admit, I was confused for a moment.... wasn't sure who I was... . Really. :-)

I subscribe to anonymous caller id from my land line provider. Some still figure out a way to get through. The names and numbers on caller id are not reliable. I have an unlisted phone number and discovered recently that some company I have done business with has shared my phone number with some charities. There is very little privacy anymore. Like most of you, I rarely answer them.

Just wait until you look at your caller ID and see your own number!

Just make sure you never return the call to find out if it was really for you.  Aside from the calls to try to scam you for money donations, many of these numbers actually are very expensive out of country calls that are yet another way for the scammers to make money. ignore any call you don't recognize, especially if no message left!
