So, a combined household income of less that $500,000. is considered "middle class"?

It is for combined gross income. I have lived in California my whole life. The cost of living is expensive. Any rinky dink studio or one bedroom apartment starts between $1,000 to $1,300 a month and I am being modest with that price. Some apartments/houses are even more expensive depending in which area you live. Uncle Sam also takes a good chunk of my salary for taxes. So I gladly welcome any tax refunds that the state has to offer.![]()

Highest income tax of the 50 at 13.3%, then throw in maybe county and city. With that kind of surplus one would think!
