There was a refund given in Colorado but since I don't pay state tax (seniors are exempt), I didn't get that refund. Anyone else who didn't file their state income taxes last year didn't get theirs either.

My governor is sitting on several billions of dollars and is looking at welfare for 'needy' huge corporations instead of helping the working and poor classes.

@hckynutjohn @hckynutjohn I'm with you on that one. Retiring in California is pretty much unattainable to keep your standard of living. I won't get political but it's crazy here. Both my brothers, firefighters, recently retired and moved out of state. One to Oregon and the other to Arizona. I miss them so much but they just couldn't make it here. Way too many taxes and prices in CA are one of the highest in the nation for most everything, gas, food, electricity, etc.

Call me cynical, but what some politicians will do for a vote. That money has to come from some one and I'm sure in time, the taxpayers will somehow be paying for it. Free money isn't free.

@coffee drinker In NM, it came from big profits in oil and gas and was all state money.

Well, I can't speak to the specifics of whatever state you live in, just California. CA has the 5th largest economy in the world. Larger than many countries!
There are plenty of roads and plenty of cars and "someone" has to keep those millions of miles of roads in good condition, so we pay more taxes than someone in a less densely populated area.
Also, our gas prices are just about the highest in the nation.
While I agree with "free money isn't free", what we're talking about here is the surplus ... taxpayers have already paid into it.
Since the roads are being maintained, and there's a big surplus, I think the tax refund is a very good idea, and a welcome relief to just about everyone who will receive it.

There are always some checks sent out right before an election.

Same here in GA. All of our pensions and Social Security are exempt so we don't have to pay GA income tax. So there was nothing to refund to us. GA is very retiree friendly. I am happy others are receiving a refund of state taxes.
