My kids' colleges have a "food court" which includes a salad place, taco place, Starbucks, a Panera type place, and a few other options. They're not relegated to only eating cafeteria food.
My youngest' residence hall has a full kitchen set up on each floor. Now they're able to make some meals. With grocery store delivery available, she can eat pretty well.

When my kids went away to college, usually the school had some kind of care package that you could send to your student. It usually contained food or snack items and even items that had the school logo on them. That way the newer students could fit in with the older kids when they went to a school function. I know both of my kids mentioned how much fun it was to receive something in the mail!

Color Catchers by Shout for his laundry.
I'm convinced they were invented for college kids!

My niece started college last year and college is so much different now than it was, especially before the internet. They get a notification on their phone when a package is in their mailbox.
My sister purchased the 24/7 food plan for my niece because she is involved in the theater and they rehearse day and night and performances end later. She also had ApplePay on her phone, which my sister promptly cut off after the first month of shopping in town for $200 boots, etc. LOL
Because she is in theater, I found a wall calendar made of Play Bills. Last week she asked if I was buying her the 2018 version. Which I did.
She pretty much just want money to spend in town when they go off campus since her mother cut off her ApplePay.

It's been a few years for me but the last time I sent a Care package the postage was over $20. After that I sent gift cards and checks.

@reiki604- I'm a litle late joining in.
Sending care packages to my niece and two nephews was/is one of my favorite things to do! I'm on the last one and he's just starting his senior year.
Starting out his freshman year, I asked him to give me a list of "stuff" that he likes/uses. Body wash, shampoo, deodorant, conditioner, facial scrub, etc. And then I asked for a list of fun snack type stuff he likes to eat.
Usually my care packages consist of a few personal item type things from his list. I just sent him one a few weeks ago and included his body wash.
I send him gift cards to Amazon, AMEX gift cards, etc. When he was living in the dorm, I searched google to see what restaurants were near his dorm (Subway, etc) and would include gift cards to those restaurants.
He loves to go to movies so same thing- AMC or Regal gift card.
He loves Cheez Its and Kitkats and Sour Patch Kids. So each package always includes some Sour Patch kids.
On the personal item stuff, at the beginning of the year, I do a shopping trip and get a supply of his stuff to keep at our house so I'm not having to go out frequently to get these things. Then, when I want to send a package to him, I shop from my gift closet (yes, I have a gift closet).
The most recent thing I did was this morning. Cheryl's cookies has cute cookie cards for different occasions for $5.99. On their site this morning, I ordered a Halloween card for him and asked that it be delivered on Oc. 26th. I love sending the Cheryl cookie cards.

Gift cards are great. Homemade treats are great to share with others and break the ice. If the school is in New England a heavy pair of socks, gloves with that finger pad that works on their touch screen devices without taking your hand out of the glove. A pair of those Ice Grip trax to put on over shoes or boots when the ground gets icy (which it always does at some point.)

@gidgetgh, I love sending Cheryl's cookie cards.
I just placed an order this morning for six of them. All of my youngest daughter's friends are at school now, so I just wanted to send them a little treat. I miss them too ![]()

@Bri36- I love it when they put the new ones out for any upcoming holiday. Our little grandson gets so excited when he comes home from preschool and sees mail waiting for him and that it's a cookie!
