You are correct, but the other thing is that delivery head first USUALLY ensures that the largest part is delivered first. So, USUALLY, the rest of the baby just follows. Shoulder dystocia (getting large shoulders stuck after the head is out) is a real obstetrical emergency.
The breech position doesn't offer the same assurance that the head can't get stuck. Not large enough pelvis will be cause for C-Section, but breech birth doesn't always ensure part of the body delivered and head too big.
Today, MOST breech births will be C-Sections. I have a friend that had such a fast labor that her footling breech baby just HAD to be delivered on the spot!
