If these creeps are caught, the penalties should be greater than usual. Same for price gougers. Selling necessities to hapless victims of severe storms is theft in its own way.

Some states do have price-gouging laws, but not all do. South Carolina has had one on the books since 2002. It's only in effect when the governor declares a state of emergency, which happened on Tuesday. http://www.wrdw.com/content/news/Price-gouging-laws-in-effect-in-South-Carolina-ahead-of-Matthew-395...

Florida also has a price-gouging law and it also becomes active when a governor declares a state of emergency.

Some people are really degenerates. It never ceases to amaze me how truly evil some human beings can be to one another.

The irony is they may not be able to get out with the stuff they've taken. Wonder if they thought of that.

Break-ins to home of those who have evacuated for the Hurricane are beginning to be reported. What on earth is wrong wth people!?

@MercysMom

Link?  None of the news agencies are mentioning any break-ins.  Google search is not bringing up anything either.

I saw this (as a concern) on Twitter:

Steve Harrigan in Sebastian, #Florida: Several counties issuing curfews, concerns about looting. #HurricaneMatthew #KellyFile

@GATORGIRL

OP reported break-in reports 8 hrs ago.  At this time, still no reports of such from any news outlets.

Concerns & actual break-ins are 2 different things.
