Yes they do.  I get one every 2 years. I think starting age 66 or something they have you do it. I did okay, I was in osteopenia in 2022, then because I had issues they had me get one last year early, I had dropped to -3. I need treatment but have been fighting it as I am to afraid to take the meds for osteoporosis

@goldensrbest  Osteoporosis does not show symptoms. The only way to detect it is with the bone density test. That is how i found out I have it. Now I get tested every two years.

Yes, I was scanned earlier this year and determined that I have the beginning of osteoporosis.   I got the shot in July.  Next one in January.   No issues with the shot.  I was dreading it.

Do you have to lay on your back for the scan?

@monicakm yes, you do, and you have to lay very still.

@SharkE , Medicare might cover it more often if you have a condition like osteoporosis.  You should check.

When I was working my insurance didn't cover it, but found out last year that Medicare will cover it. Have one every 2 years.

Yes, if you've gone through menopause, it's especially important.  I am over-due for one, but I have one scheduled next month.  I have fairly severe osteoporosis.  I used to get the once yearly infusion med for it but my dcotor decided to take me off it for a while.  I have severe stomach issues so I could not tolerate the meds you take by mouth.  I think it is important to get a bone density test.  It is quick and painless.  If all tests and procedures could be so simple and painless!

TALK TO YOUR DOCTOR!!!!!  What other women do or don't do is irrelevant to you.
